| DMDaddy04-16-06, 09:01 PM | I did an Orc city once. The PCs had to find a way out. The city was based on the "powerful rule the weak". 1. That meant that no one was aloud to leave the city without permission. Even Orcs. But, there were secret exits around, they just had to find who knew and would tell them. 2. All humans must have a mark of some sort which prooves that they are allowed to be in the city. They must seek the theives to provide a false mark or the equivalent. 3. Because they didn't have the mark they were being hunted by the elite guards and were chased by Worgs who scented them out. 4. They discovered that an old friend was a prisoner and had to find a way to get him out. Places they found help: 1.A neutral orc cleric temple. 2.The gnome, kobolds, goblins who are usually the lessers of the society and resent orc rulership. There may be a district were such a one is a sage who may be willing to help. 3.The orc thieves guild is always looking to off someone. That's about all I can remember. |

| Illion the Red04-21-06, 03:39 PM | Are the PCs goblins? Goblin allies? A city has to have some sort of industry to maintain itself. They need a source of food and income. Determine these and plot hooks will follow. Example: A large part of their diet comes from the farming of various types of mushrooms. For plot hooks, think of what could go wrong like a Myconoid invasion in defense of "their brethren." |
| Steel Cobra04-21-06, 04:01 PM | Well what I would do is make the goblins stealing from a nearby (on the larger side) town to supply their own town. Now make the PCs passing through and make some of the villigers whine to the PCs. If that doesn't do it while they sleep have the goblins take some of their stuff (GP and items (non magical), no weapons/armor) that should be enough to get them venting and charge into the town to get it back. Buyt once there they see that not only is the town full of goblins (and whatever else you wanna put in it) but also they have great defenses at the main entrance that they can't possibly get through without finding another way in. This point make some small entrances where the PCs have to crawl through them, or have some hidden doors for them to find, or whatever fits into your area. While in there try to make them stay hidden, basically if they are not careful they die. Now here is where I would go, you can take it or leave it, but I think it would work. Now I would make some goblins that want to re-volt, or that have been mistreated and want revenge. They have some of the maps of the city, they helped build it. They see where the castle/noble house is where the loot should be, lead them on to this, although it is not there, it is inside a random normal looking house that they will stumble into later. Some stuff happens, make sure this doens't drag, and then they are getting into the castle. You know your PCs better then I do so this is where you will have to do some work. I would make it so they need to keep on sneaking, although make them fight some goblins, but it lasts too long and it turns into a run away sene and say good-bye to their GP and items. Once in they may find the king of the place, oddly enough he is a half-orc (or some more normal race), and well they can kill him, but they should ask the right questions after beating him in with their weapons (need to fight). If they ask the right questions they will find the place where they store the GP, if not they need to find it on their own. It is probally to hold the king hostage while they go about the city, it would be easier to do things. Make the goblins really like the king though so they would do anything to make sure he is ok, like help returning the goods or what not. Now this is just me but, I would put in plenty of fights to make sure the session(s) don't drag only on "I move to the next house and make sure they don't see me." That would be bad. That's what I would do with my party, you know yours better then me, alter as needed. |
| FriendoftheDork04-21-06, 07:07 PM | If you can get a hold of Into the Dragon's Lair module set in FR (3.0) there is a city of goblin premade for you, with armies, organization and everything. Of course these are not like their savage kin, far more organized and more like humans in their actions and clothing. I basically just dumped a 10th level party there, who mainly wanted to get away. In the end they negotiated with a goblin general who was fighting a civil war after their leader died ( the dragon), getting him to help them in return for putting him in power. |
