| tskeeve12-13-03, 09:52 PM | Hi, First off, I would like to apologize to all those who posted on my 'First Adventure...' thread, because I have decided not to use that as my first adventure. I will keep it in mind for another time though, so the ideas were not in vain. Okay, basically, I had some free time, and my group hasn't met for the first adventure yet, so I decided to write a kind of script for the beginning scene of my campaign. It will be based in FR. I want a lighthearted npc group of adventurers that grows with my PC's, so I created them and placed them in the beginning scene. They will be rivals, but friendly with the PC's over the course of the game, unless of course the PC's decide to slay them, which will kind of mess it up...but anyways, here is my script for the beginning scene. It is unfinished obviously, and it is really badly written, with many, many grammatical mistakes, because I was typing quickly to get the ideas out of my head. Please comment. You and your party members are on a passenger ferry, slowly yet surely reaching your destination, the city of Waterdeep. While you are resting onboard the ferry, a slim, tall individual with a strange disc instrument and a bag slung over his shoulder walks up to you and your party… J Fizzle: Yo, yo, yo! Whaddup homies! The name’s J Fizzle, ya hear? Rap: Yah, yah, yah, J Fizzle’s the name, rappin’s my game, I gots a wild demeanor, it’s hard to tame, You betta watch out, or I’ll light a fire, I’ll light it so much it becomes a pyre… An intelligent looking Halfling with dark skin silently walks behind this strange adventurer, nodding his head disapprovingly and trying his best to explain his companion’s unique behavior… Ranthas: Excuse my brash bardic friend here, fellow adventurers. It seems that my companion has mistaken you for one of his “dawgs” from his “crib” if you may. J Fizzle: Yo R Dawg, why you have to play me like that man? Don’t hate the playa, hate the game! Besides, y’all owe me like a zillion times over! Y’all know I saved y’all’s butts from bein whooped by dose trolls, know what I’m sayin dawg? Ranthas: As a matter a fact, I do not. Two more rugged individuals appear from inside the cabin, one with a dazzling suit of full plate armor, and a huge sword strapped across his back, a grim look on his face and arms across his chest as if expecting to break up mischief, and another an elf for sure, with long, light brown hair that flows down a skinny, but athletic body. His wiry frame, long, dark robe, and large spellbook poking out of the side of his backpack give away his arcane training easily. Both individuals stride casually towards the gathering group of J Fizzle, Ranthas, and you and your party. The large, muscular man in full plate armor strokes his short black hair and frowns at you and your party. Fillmore: I don’t believe you guys! How can you talk to such ragamuffins? I am utterly ashamed of you Jerek! You too Ranthas! J Fizzle: Yo Filling, why you have to call me by my fake name dawg? As a mattah a fact, y’all been callin me Jerek even Ranthas (Stuttering helplessly and waving his arms in the air like a man desperate for air): B…b.u…t..t..t (but)… Fil…l…mo…re(Fillmore)…. we(we) t…h…ou..gh….t(thought) th…at(that)….th…e…y(they)….wer..e(were) ..o…kay(okay)… Fillmore: How dare you two risk our party’s reputation by associating with those that are so … disgusting? I am a paladin of the forces of good and law, and I will not allow these fools that stand before you to change your mind about our cause! Donthar: Stop causing trouble Fillmore. You haven’t even talked to these adventurers. You know nothing of their morals or their motives. (To your party) I am sorry for the inconvenience, but as you might have seen, our adventuring party is a bit different. We do not agree all the time, but for the most part we keep ourselves fed, bathed, and clothed. Not to mention the occasional laugh that occurs from one of Jerek’s inconceivably moronic new ‘Urban’ lingo, and Fillmore’s stupidly blown up ego. Well, that’s enough of this chitchat. Explain yourselves. Who are you? If the party tells their name and occupation, have J Fizzle answer. If the party decides not to tell them, or tells them lies, have Fillmore smite them with words. J Fizzle: Yo! Lemme intro-duce me self and my homies! Rap: The name’s J Fizzle, Rappin’s my game, Youse betta watch out o’ I’ll dish the pain, I’m a human, thas right, you betta believe, Bard’s the profession, so you betta not sneeze, I gots my Longbow, Ra-ta-tat-tat, Yah, isssounds something like that! But it all depends on the size o’ the gat… Ranthas: Umm…yeah. Jerek, I’ll take it from here. J Fizzle (frowning): Aw…how you gonna play me like that? Ranthas (clearing throat): My name is Ranthas, and as you can see I am a halfling. I have had formal training at a halfling’s rogue’s guild in Waterdeep, and I made friends with these guys here when I attempted to pilfer a couple gold coins from Jerek over here. They forgave me, and found my skills useful, but then again...who wouldn't find my skills useful? The large human with the dark hair and a perpetual frown is Fillmore, Arnold Fillmore. We rarely call him by his first name though. He is a paladin of Lathander… Fillmore: That’s right you petty adventurers of Faerun! I will destroy all that is chaotic and evil! Let nothing stand in my way! Yaaar! (Lifts Greatsword into the air triumphantly) Ranthas: (in a hushed voice) Yeah…though I do feel he takes his code of ethics to the extreme. My good friend over there with the pointy ears, he’s an elf. He was taught wizardy by his grandfather and his uncle, both accomplished wizards in Silverymoon, up north. Donthar: Hail friends, my name is Donthar, elven wizard. Donthar circles his hands in a formal elven greeting and bows down. Ranthas: And you have obviously been introduced to Jerek, or J Fizzle, whatever you want to call him. He is our resident Bard. He may be scary at first, but he is quite likeable once you get to know him. Ah, yes that instrument is an invention of his. It is a thick wooden board with two large mithril discs that he circles around with his hand. There is a magical quality to it that circles the disc creating a beat for him, which he can modify by twirling the discs. (Think portable DJ table) J Fizzle: Ya Dawg! I call it the discizzle! Ya know what I’m sayin my peeps! J Fizzle’s companions shake their heads in a disappointed sort of way, and Fillmore speaks up. Fillmore: It seems that we are only a few hours from our next stop. It will be a few days before we reach Waterdeep, which I assume is where you are all headed too? That's where it leaves off. I will add to it later. All comments will be appreciated. I just want to know if it is a good start to fleshing out the npc's, and introducing them to the group that they will work with and compete against throughout the campaign. J Fizzle or Jerek: Rapping bard. He has a magical portable DJ table and raps. He is meant to be humorous. My group likes this kind of humour, and I do too, so I added him. Ranthas: He is an intelligent halfling rogue with a superiority complex. He is good friends with Jerek and Donthar, but is scared that Fillmore will pound him the second he does something 'imperfect'. Fillmore: Everyone's lawful good nightmare:D . Fillmore is a paladin of Lathander, who takes his paladinhood way too seriously. I like this character because I want to make him grow throughout the campaign, from viewing everything as black and white, to later seeing the grays and accepting them. Donthar: Elven wizard. I haven't fleshed him out in my mind too well, but for right now he is the only 'normal' member of the group, and he is sort of their leader too. I'm thinking of adding a psychotic hamster familiar for this guy, and having the hamster routinely run up people's pants... |
