| Obscure One10-20-04, 12:03 AM | I'm in the middle of designing a campaign and a certain creature I created climbs into trees during combat. I'm pretty sure that climbing is a single action movement that I'd have to roll a climb check for it, but I'm not sure if it would trigger an attack of opportunity from a player in an adjacent square considering the creature is moving up about 15ft. Or is it simply considered a 5ft step supposing that it is standing next the tree? |

Exceptions to this: 1) If the creature's movement is high enough that 15 feet constitutes a "5 foot step" and 2) The creature can take 10 on climb checks even under pressure, like the ability afforded to giant spiders and the like. If one condition is met, it falls into a gray area. I find it's best to generally give the PCs their attack of opportunity... it makes the game more fun for them, and ultimately for you. |
