| pobre_Sméagol09-25-04, 02:49 PM | 1. OK,one of my PCs wants to play a fighter, and also start the game with and animal companian, so I desided he can do that in exchange for his fighter bonus feat. Does that sound like a fair trade? 2. Also, the animal he wanted to start with was a weasel, well, I'm sure you see the problem here. Weasels have 1/2 HD, as compared to a more normal animal companian, the wolf who has 2 HD. So, I need to advance the weasel, but the MM doesn't have any info for advancing thoes little guys from tiny to small, or for giving them more HD. How should I go about advancing him. 3. And now the third problem, I'm using 3.0, and it doesn't have any info on how to advance animal companians with there master. I think I heard somthing about 3.5 having that information, so if you wouldn't mind sheding some light on this topic for me, I'd be much pleased. I dont think its gonna be fun to get to 5th level and have a weak animal companian :p. 4. This one is off topic, but I need an answer on it. What happens to a thrown weapon? Is it destroyed on impact like arrows and such? Does it only have a 50% of being found if it misses? How about retreiving it in the heat of battle? Thanks for answering all of my previous questions. You guys have been alot of help in learning all the tid-bits of this game. -Pobre_Sméagol |

As for advancing the weasel, a quick and easy way to do it is just use the stats of a similar animal, and just changing the name to a weasel. For example, just use the stats for the badger as the stats for your player's weasel. As for progressing the weasel along with the player, use this link (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/re/20031118a). |

As for the animal companion, if the player is ok with it not being powerful, you could let him keep his feat, and if he has 4 ranks in handle animal, it can be a weasel he raised since its birth, and is more of a pet than a combat tool. But if he insists on doing this, i would have him become a ranger, and work out something where he gets his companion early. It could be exactly like a non companion version of itself, but he gets the bonus on handling it that he would get if it were a companion. Then at 4th level it becomes a companion normally. |

| Eightbitmage09-25-04, 11:47 PM | yes a sling gets more damage the same way a thrown weapon does. |
