| Teamdominion2511-16-03, 09:22 AM | Hello, I am quite new to the great world of D&D, but im having an awsome time in it. I usually DM, and get my adventures from wizarrdsofthecoast.com in the free adventure section, but i have a few questions. First, in some adventures, their is a dungeon-like map with tile and such that i usually just enlarge on a nother piece of papers and lay them down as the adventurers go into the new areas. But in some adventures their is no map like this. Should i just find a map and use that, or is their some way to run the game without a map (i mean battling needs a map for movement a stuff, right) Another question is that in some adventures it says to help someone do something for lets say D6 hours. Does that mean that they actually help someone do a single task for that many REAL hours or what. I just think it would be boring to have my adventurers sit around for 4 hours and really not do anyting. AS you can tell im quite new but i think this is an amazing game, so any tips or ideas you have certainly will help. THanks |

As your characters enter a new dungeon room just take a dry erase marker and draw the room on the battle mat, then have your characters place their miniatures or counters in their position in the room and run the battle. It works perfectly. That way you also don't have to go to the trouble of blowing up maps, etc. I wouldn't run the game without miniatures and a battlemat in 3e or 3.5e. It will eliminate the proper use of many feats and spells and will cause the game to be less fun. Second question: lord no! When it says a character does something for d6 hours, that is game time, not real time. Just say, "3 hours (or however many you rolled) pass." Just like that. Should take you about 1 second. For example, what if your characters decide to rest and heal for a week. You aren't going to play a week of game time are you? Abou the only place in D&D where game time and real time are 1 for 1 is during NPC/PC ropleplaying interaction, and even that isn't always true. |
