Greetings. I may have misread or skipped such section on the DMG. How exactly does it work? I know a wizard learns 2 spells automatically each level. I'm assuming he can choose those from any book available in the current campaign ( we use PHB, CA,CD, SpC, and BoED). Now, what if said wizard wishes to buy a spell from a merchant or the good 'ol magic shoppe?

Let's assume we have an 8th level wizard who's never used or seen teleport, is it perfectly viable for him to go ask for such a spell, or is there a mechanic for him to learn it? What about for spells with a more obscure twist like Vortex of Teeth or Defenestrating Sphere?

I've heard of researching spells and costs, but I thought these applied to original spells that a wizard PC wished to create. Perhaps I as wrong ad indeed the wizard's player must spend some time and money into acquiring these new spells between levels. Thank you in advance.
