Although I am using the D20 ruleset I adapted the adventure from the back of the old Warhammer Fantasy roleplay book. For those that don't know it: The PCs were employed by a merchant to recover a gem from a gang. The gem is dangerous and can cause a terrible disease to afflict those who come into contact with it. The merchant gives the PCs an enchanted box to reduce the effects. When the PCs arrive to get the gem they find that the gang has been decimated by a hit and run attack from a rival gang and only a few members are still alive. To make matters worse an evil cult (of Nurgle) want the gem and are in the process of launching an attack on the gang. The PCs aid the gang and kill the cultists, they part from the gang on good terms, after aquiring the gem. They then proceed to return the gem to the merchant. and then the bit ive made up: Afterwards, one of the PCs becomes ill and it is clear that he has contracted the disease. Also they find that a similar plague is affecting the entire city. After doing some research they realise that the only way to cure the plague is to kill it at the source, which is in some underground temple (and is related to the previously mentiond cult) . The PCs are currently in the upper level of this dungeon killing some plague-infected goblins, the cultists are on the lower level. Im thinking that the source is some giant pulsating crystal. Does anyone have any ideas how to carry on this plot? Im completely open to any ideas! I quite like the idea that this cultists are some sort of precursor to a large invasion from the north? But anything is good. Thanks everyone. x |

I'm a big fan of grossing out my players when they come across something truly evil. First, I'd make the source of the crystal be a big fat guy (maybe even a giant) that is thoroughly pox-ridden and filthy, kept captive by the cultists. Every few weeks, the obese captive passes a large, disease-ridden kidney stone that the cultists then polish into the crystals the PCs got a hold of earlier in the adventure. For extra flavor, describe one of the crystals being produced in exquisite detail when the PCs enter the chamber. (Watch how many PCs rush to the bathroom to wash their hands.) I'd stock the dungeon with all manner of disease-carrying or otherwise weird creatures such as advanced fiendish otyughs, oozes, dire maggots, roach thralls, and the like. The cultists can take levels in the various Thrall prestige classes presented in the Book of Vile Darkness, especially the Thrall of Juiblex. Cancer mage is also a nice choice. Stick with the disease and poison theme and you can't go wrong. The PCs will eventually find that the best treasure they can get out of this adventure is a hot, soapy shower. |

I don't know if you are aware of the warahmmer world, but the kidney stones could be a varient of wyrdstone. Hmmm... many possibillites. |

It could be of an advancing army, or a famous land mark (such as the capitol city Altdorf) being sacked. Im thinking that when a magic artefact was created an imprint of the creators thoughts go into that artefact. It could be what he was seeing, what he was thihnking at the time etc. As the giant creature is created by the cultists quite recently on the behalf of their god, the images that flash into their minds are the plans of the god. Similar to what happened with the seeing stones in lotr's. THat could give them a good insight to what will happen a bit into the future. THats just an idea tho, and im still open to suggestions!x |
