| tsuyoshikentsu10-02-05, 03:54 PM | Hey guys... I'm not sure what etiquette on these boards are yet, so I'll get right down to it: in my campaign, one of my players is feeling a little under-rewarded. She happens to be right. See, I like to think I'm pretty good at making treasure. I can think of a million and one magical items, useful or otherwise. (Ask me about the Amulet of Theme Music.) The problem is, though... I have no idea what to give a druid, and as such my druid feels very, very poor compared to everyone else. The rogue's got her Bowl of Lies (don't ask) the monk's got his nifty necklace, and she's stuck with a bag of gold pieces. The characters just hit third level, and she's more the roleplaying than the min/maxer type. (Her next character's going to be a core-only human bard. Uggggh.) So... What can I give her? (Full names of sources would be greatly appreciated; I don't know all of the abbreviations yet.) |

At 3rd level, magic items should be few and far between (if they have any at all). I don't have the DMG magic item charts memorized, but I think that an EL3 encounter should only have about a <5% chance to get a minor magic item. But its your game, so I'll just answer the question as posted. I know this is going to sound mean, but its a druid. Nature. Anything with nature-like themes would be awesome. A bracelet of Thorns that dosn't harm her but gives her a resistance to poisons. A shirt made of leaves that covers her scent with that of the forest. These are all ones that I've just popped off the top of my head. For magic items that are in the books, you can take pretty any item and alters the non-statline description of the item (thus the looks and feel of the item change, but it does the same thing as it did before). For example, take the necklace of fireballs. You could change it to be a bracelet of Acorns. When you throw them, they still blow up, and they still do the same thing.... but to the players, it seems like a totally different item. |
| tsuyoshikentsu10-02-05, 05:04 PM | To clarify: When I say "magic items," I don't mean anything uber-powerful, just things that are useful every once in a while and look cool. For instance, my rogue's Bowl of Lies fills with food every time she tells a lie, with the quality of the foo equaling the quality of the lie. I think she's only used it once in a game-affecting way. (And it was totally worth it to hear "I throw chili at the kobold ninja.") I'm not talking about game-breaking effects, just little trinkets to, essentially, make the character more interesting and fun to play. EDIT: Thanks, Rumple_Cragstan. That'll help. Er. That sounded sarcastic. It wasn't, though. |

Also think about some goodies to up her animal comanions wellbeing. Collars of Scouting (Lets you scy on the lil wolffie) or some lil do-dad that ups their running speed. The horseshoes that turn ponies into Nitemares is spiffy. Also think about that leaf Armor. Not too spiffy on the AC but it looks freakin kool. Maybe a Headdress that let's her talk to local spirits or a staff that lets her take them with her. Just some wierd ideas. |
| tsuyoshikentsu10-02-05, 05:19 PM | Thanks also. Tokens are fun, I forgot. It's been forever since I was a druid. Should probably have remembered to post: her companion is a viper. |
