It is my turn at being the DM, and already a problem pops up. One player is a level 10 Fighter/ 5 Master of Chains. He says he gains chain armor with 5 AC bonus and that it has no Max Dex modifier. So he claims that means he keeps all his Dex bonus, while another says that it means his Dex modifier is not added. As they fight, they turn to me :( to decide who is right.
Since I'm new to the whole DM thing I need some help on this one.

( please do not comment on my horrible spelling and grammer.)

He says he gets all this stuff? You mean you don't have access to the material yourself? Bad move, my friend. Please allow me to be the first in what is sure to be a long line of people advising you to never, ever, EVER allow a player to use any class, feat, etc that you haven't looked at and approved first, especially if you aren't going to have constant access to the material.

A max dex modifier of "-" means that your dex bonus is unlimited. A max dex modifer listed as "0" would mean no dex bonus at all.

I do have the material, and have read through it, but since the two players are both far more experenced than I at being a DM, they both assure me that they are the one who is correct. I tried to put my foot down and rule but they kept fighting. Thanks to all the bickering we ran out of time to play and had to wait on the final answer the next time. So I wanted an opion on this matter for when we played next, because if I don't settle the issue now it will take out all the fun in the game.
So Yes, for now on I will research more than before and never let a player use a skill, feat, power, that I have not said ok too.

This one is in black and white: "no max Dex modifier..." p. 28 of the Sword and Fist. The key word there is "max." So, whatever the character's dex. modifier is gets applied. There shouldn't be any discussion about this.

Especially in game. I've made a on spot ruling to move the game along even when arguments have broken out for one side or another. I'd rather risk it now and fix it later than not play for the rest of the night.

Ah, I see. Well, it's already been stated that the one arguing that he keeps his full Dex bonus is correct. Regardless, they should both have shut their traps and accepted your spot ruling for the time being. They didn't, and the result was that the rest of the game time was wasted for everyone. That's a shame.

Thank you all for your comments on this ruling, and I will try harder to enforce my rules on up start players and make my final decision on matters like this earlier in the game.
