| Kargush06-04-06, 05:17 PM | In a recent game, a situation popped up for which I had no precedent, and could find no rules to help me arbitrate. You see, an evil wizard had just charmed our intrepid ninja, and proceeded to offer him a gem loaded with Trap the Soul. In an effort to stop the ninja from getting mashed, the party's sorcerer decided to regal the ninja with a Dominate. Now, the question is: what should happen? I let it go, stating that the two opposing characters had to make opposed charisma checks, and the winner would "control" the ninja. As it happened, he ended up in the gem, poor lad, but was later rescued. Cut what would you do in a similar situation? Does the Dominate cancel out the Charm? Or what? Thanks for all help. |

In this case, the dominate should win, as being mentally enslaved and forced to do something has more weight to it than doing it because a friend want's you to. |

And even if there were two different Compulsion effects (like Dominate) on him, there are rules existing to determine who gets control (I'd have to look, but I believe it's an opposed Charisma check). |

Nothing short of a self destructive command will generally be refused by a dominated creature, so even if he believes picking up the gem is a good idea from Suggestion, he is unable to as you have total control over him That said, if dominate wears off before the suggestion does (or is removed), he may get it in his head again to go after that gem |
