I think that the real issue is that DMs and players, from any edition or perspective, can't come to a proper consensus on the DMs role and their boundaries in the game because each of us has such different games and questions about things for the sake of a story and such can get tricky. Settings with poorly defined rules and few options tend to make DMs or whatever you call the person running the game far more powerful and give them more authority. On the flipside those that have more options and more clearly defined rulesets somewhat limit the person running if they follow the rules religiously. The real key is this, what makes the game fun for both sides and creates memorable events. That is how you can set boundaries for your campaigns and ensure the fun times. |

And everyone should have complete say to maximize their own utility/happyness at the table, since, if everyone is seeking to maximize their own utility/happyness, then everyone will succeed. What you're talking about with that silly communication crap is communism! COMMUNISM I SAY! And what is with these boundaries! Those sound suspeciously like REGULATION! Creeping socialism! That is what I've found here! CREEPING SOCIALISM! Reported to the House Committee on Un-American Activities! *Sarcasm Off* Actually I agree with you. Communication is key to a good game, however, the reason for arguements on web boards is because people can. I wouldn't have these arguements with players in my house, or with players at a game store. If someone was... rude enough... to start yelling at me about my game style in a game store, I'd simply leave after informing the management I wouldn't be back. And why. And who was responcible. If it was at my house I'd simply thank the person for taking the time to come over, and then I'd ask them to leave. However, on the web, people feel they can get away with murder *hides knife* so they do! *sneaks up behind a WizO and backstabs!* And for the most part they get away with it *wipes blood off knife.* Rosisha |

But either way they will argue because people are different and alot of times different means wrong to them. So it will keep going no matter what a few good intentioned posts say.. so just give up and accept it and skip the stuff you dont like I suppose. Good luck though =/ |

I was a big fan of planescape 2nd ed and I miss the type of fluff that was in that. I wish they would seperate the new stuff out into DM material and Player material, like they did for much of the PS stuff |
