Raumz 05-05-07, 05:14 PM	Hi. Does an armor penalty that gives a -1 penalty effect the modifier on a ranged attack? (Like lets say a rogue has a +3 modifier to ranged attack from dex but she has on leather armor that gives a -1 dex penalty, does the attack bonus go down to +2?) Thanks for your time.
Ubasrawr 05-05-07, 05:17 PM	If her dex ability modifier drops enough to have her bonus drop, then yes, it would effect it. So 17 Dex to 16 dex, not change. But 16 to 15 Dex, there is a change.
Onikani 05-05-07, 05:39 PM	if the penalty is an armor check penalty then no, it does not effect to hits, it only ffects certain skills. Wow, if full plate's check penalty counted on attack rolls it would be truley worthless...
alangriffith 05-05-07, 06:19 PM	Finding it hard to work out exactly what you are asking, so will cover all bases. As Onikani said, the armour check penalty does not normally apply to rolls to hit, however you have to be proficient with it. If you are not proficient with the armour, the check penalty DOES apply to rolls to hit, as well as all skill rolls involving movement. there is no 'dex penatly' on leather armour, unless it is magically cursed. If you are talking about cursed armour which does give a -1 to dex, Ubasrawr is correct The maximum dex *bonus* is the maximum bonus from your dexterity which can be applied TO AC when wearing that armour, it has NO effect on use of dex for anything else, including attack rolls. Its amazing how many people miss this.
