| Rexracerjr12-15-07, 10:10 PM | This thread will follow the ongoing and strange sessions of a DM(me) and his wacky assortment of players. It will sserve as both a guide to other new DMs show some of the mistakes I made and a discussion of ideas for futre sessions. I have been playing for two years, but now I am DMing a group of totally new players. feel free to comment, criticize, give new ideas, and ask questions. We are currently on session 5 of our campaign, and aa lot has changed. we gained 3 players, so I decided to split the group, having one of the more experienced players DM them. we play in the same room, and still talk, but there are still 2 different parties. but I think I will start at the beginning. DAY 1: At the first(although unofficial) meeting of the father judge high school D&D club as we called it, there was a great deal of excitement. my idea had blossomed into 5 players showing up. The first day was composed of one thing: character building. The original 5 players to show up were eager to learn how to play, and I was eager to teach. we decided to make first level characters. Here is what we came out with -Kenny, playing Ishtar, half-elf ranger. -Kamil, Playing Limak, human rogue -Nick, playing Javert, human Necromancer (Later became DM) -Wally, playing Ator, elf druid -Scott, playing Eldriath, elf warlock Added session 2: -Lucas, playing Lucas, human crusader. Added Session 4(first sanctioned event): John, playing Ashwin, Dwarf fighter/rogue Joven, playing Joven, Elf Sorcerer Lucas chose crusader as a class simply because when I showed him fighter, he thought it was a bit too generic. From now on, I will use character names only. We played a short tutorial adventure with the new characters, getting a basic feel for the rules. Here is what I divined: 1. Eldriath is the "kenny" of the group. he went to -1 hp twice. he plays his warlock(who wields a spiked chain) like a fighter. 2.Javert is quite demanding. He often makes up ficticous rulings in his favor. this is why I chose him as the 2nd DM. 3.Ishtar automatically assumes that his attacks will 1 hit kill. Tommorrow:session 2 |
| Rexracerjr12-16-07, 03:44 PM | Session 2: The party roleplays through a harvest festival. accolades were given to me from all but, Javert, who complained about lack of combat. It marked the debut of the PCs archfoe, the faceless one, an evil lich. Session 3: This was an awesome session. The PCs, now level 2, had to defend a fortress from a goblin raiding party. I pulled out dozens of goblin minis and some old weapons and warriors siege weapons. they had some help from the soildiers and 3 3rd level paladins. this climaxed with Eldriath falling of the castle wall, going to -7 hp, and finally being saved by Ishtar, who had taken the healing hands skill trick. I made some DMing mistakes in this matach, mainly allowing Limak, who had downed a potion of invisibilty, to disable my Main siege weapon with a simple strike targeting the crew chief. the potion should have worn off 2 rounds beforehand. Session 4: We had gotten so many new players, so we decided to play Risk instead. We split into 2 groups, one DMed by Javert after this session. Next post: session 5(ohh the drama of it all) |
