Finally, I had a game session go very well. The PCs are all around 7-8th level right now(with a Gnome NPC), and after they saved the high forest last session. They went on to have a minor encounter at Stone Bridge, then they arrived in the town of Sky Lark(This is int he Forgotten Realms by the way). There the Mage accidentally let the Barbarians swords get stolen by an unscrupoulous blacksmith who is a member of a theives guild. Luckily they soon loacted another member and he agreed to help them because he did not like the blacksmith. He leads them through some tunnels and sttuff, to the guild. Where they meet the guilds leader, who is a.......MINDFLAYER!!!!!!

Now when they say the Mindflayer they also saw the guy who stole the Barbarians swords in front of him. The Mindflayer ate his brains and told the Barbarian to get his sword. He did, and then the Mindflayer asked them if they wanted to join. Some inter-partys debate happened, but they decided to join. So their first mission was to break out some members of the guild in a Waterdeep prison. So, needless to say the Barbarain and the Dwarven Cleric of Gond, and the Gnome caused a distraction so they Rogue and Mage could sneak in. The Mage polymorphed them to look like guards, so they had an easy time getting to the prisoners. Once that was done, the whole party eventually made a hasty retreat out of there.

When they got back to the MF's lair, he proceeded to eat all of the prisoners brains, well he saved one for later. So he gave them a super-fast boat that would take them to Lantan. Which is where they wanted to go, because the Dwarf needed to talk to the mayor of a town about an invention he made. So, they got their relatively quickly. On they way the Barbarian went Barrel-skiing, and the Gnome tested out his submarine thingy for a bit. Once they arrived they found out that the mayor was missing, and after some more mishaps, find themslelevs in fron of a portal hidden inside the mayors house, and that is where it ended.

The MF also have a mental connection with all of them. So he can inform them of what their next mission is. The players seemd to have a reall great time and seem to really enjoy working for the MF. :)

EDIT:They also fought a Roc on the wat to Lantan and they call themselves "The Order of the Green Dragon."

I wish I had more sessions that ran that way.
I remember my very first D&D session ever...

The PC's were hitching a ride on a wagon, but the driver took them down a side road right into the clutches of some nasty goblins. The party was obviously outnumbered 10 to 1, and the Goblins wanted to take them prisoner - I expected them to go easy. No such luck! My players decided to launch a suicidal attack and fight to the death. Well, they nearly all died and it wasn't very nice.

Nevertheless, I learned my lesson - if the PC's do what you expect, then it's a GOOD session. If they don't, then it's a typical session.
