| Venom of the Yuan Ti05-07-05, 07:59 AM | I want to do an adventure where the PCs get shrunk down to about diminutive size, in their own home, and then (to reduce book keeping) scale everything so they are medium, but how would I go about monsters and such, should I just add a bucket of Hd to tiny-small cretures and increase there size, or would things like swallow whole become usfull additions to them? If it is not clear it will be like they are in a giant version (everything at about +3 size catogorys) of their home. |

| Elric Of Melnibone05-07-05, 11:43 AM | If you apply the reduce spell and stack it 3 times to your player characters you will not need to change anything. The results are +6 to dex, -6 str, weight /24, +4 AC, +4 to hit. You also have to change the amount of damage thier weapons do ... A long sword now does 1d3( I started with how much damage a small weapon of that catagory does on table 7-5 of the PHB3.5 and then applied that result to the medium weapon damage in table 7-4 PHB3.5 getting the result from the tiny weapon damage column to give you a dimniuative weapon damage result). Apparently HP and spells are not affected by size. This could really highlight wizards and sorcerers ablities as a pack of giant rats could pose quite a challenge. :) |

It would probably be best to still treat the characters as medium, and then design some new monsters to represent the tiny creatures that aren't so tiny to the PCs now. |
| Venom of the Yuan Ti05-07-05, 03:00 PM | As I intend to have them running around their own house (I am so looking forward to getting them to help design the dungeon!!!!!) I expect monsterous spiders/centapides will work well, as will things like dire maggots (big enough for wood worm) but what about the special abilites I shopuld assign things like rats, DR? Swallow whole? More natural attacks? I would be cool though if I can have a Goblin as the BBEG... :evillaugh :evillaugh :evillaugh :evillaugh :evillaugh |
| Phrennzy05-07-05, 03:04 PM | Instead of thinking about how to reduce the PCs and their spells, just increase the scale around them. Rats are large size - possibly with the same stats as maybe a Dire Wolf. Spiders become medium size spiders. The desk become a 200' tall cliff. A pin becomes a rapier. Stuff like that. That way all the spells are still in scale. |
| Dave Stebbins05-08-05, 12:05 PM | I have had a similar idea in mind for several years now. A pair of Leprechauns went into the bad section of town because they wanted to spend a night at a certain gambling establishment. One was captured by Jinxkin and is being held hostage in their burrows under the city streets. The other Leprechaun approaches the PCs (who have helped other fey in the nearby forest) and asks them to help. Eventually, he gives them potions which shrink them to about a foot tall. So I was going to assume that the PCs are still medium, and scale the adventure and the encounter areas around them, all of the creatures they encounter are thus six times bigger. Rats have (as suggested by Phrennzy) the same stats as wolves and the Jinxkin are medium sized, smart and dangerous in packs, especially with their cunning, guerrilla tactics, nets and traps. Scale all the encountered creatures up and choose stats from creatues of the same approximate size and abilities (as Falkus recommends). When they enter "normal" rooms, describe the enormity of the spaces, which are now six-times larger and higher. Your goblin BBEG would then be, what, about the size of a cloud giant? He might not get all of the attributes of a cloud giant, but combat bonuses would probably be similar. It's a cool idea. Have fun with it. -Dave |
