They got togather and thought to do a full stealth party all maxing out hide/move silent. Rogue Ninja Monk/rogue Wiz/rogue (planning on arcane trickster) Ranger I sort of have an Idea on what fun things to do with this. but on the other hand I am not to sure what to do when the entire party can sneak in to a room sneak up on the big bad guy and rip him a new one with all that sneak attack damage. I know there are a lot of SA immune creatures out there but, that is not my stile of DMing, to though that stuff at them all the time. (Yes there will be a few like that to mix it up.) I have the standard sneak in to the X and do Y missions ready. And the knock down the door fights. But what else would you guys do? |
| TwiddleStootch12-13-06, 03:19 PM | ohh! you are SOOOO, SOOO, OH SOOO LUCKY! I wish my players would run some stealth characters, but none of them ever do! What I would is have them do infiltration missions into big castles/forts/caves full of really tough monsters, like ECL +1 or +2 and set it up so that, if they play it right, they can sneak past them all, since they'll never be able to fight all of them. and then give them rewards and XP as if they had fought them. |
| icnivad12-13-06, 03:29 PM | Just a couple ideas: in a war setting, you could have infiltrate enemy lines to cause general disorder. This forces them to focus on unique ways to cause havoc rather than just killing something. Let them come up with outside the box ideas like start a brawl in the dining tent then sneak out while the brawl rages on. counterspy. There's an assasin(s) coming to kill a noble(this could be any sneaky character on a sneaky mission), and the PC's are hired because of their expertise in this field to protect the noble. |
| arl198712-13-06, 03:55 PM | what about classic break out of jail. Im sure you've thought of that. Or maybe sound activated dungeon with traps that are activated by sound/sight. so stealth is a must if they don't want to get zapped. |
| NotBruce12-13-06, 04:03 PM | oh I like the counter spy idea. I am a little worryed about them not having the hevy hitters late game though. when/if they need to deal with lvl 9 spells. when it gets up there it will be very kill or be killed. as it looks like none of them will have a decent fort save. |
| Goon_for_Hire12-13-06, 04:28 PM | This is an awesome party. You really are very fortunate. Consider this idea: if the party has chaotic leanings, they could be hired or get a tip on where to find a nearly artefact-level magic item, in something like tha national treasure or a paranoid mining baron's treasure vault: a dungeon so complex it is the game world's equivalent of Fort Knox. Aside from a massive array of mechanical traps for the rogue, and the obligatory legions of guards to avoid, make add guard animals that would be missed (so that wild empathy can overcome) sopisticated puzzles and magical obstacles for the wizard to work on, an unavoidable guard in something like a watchtower with a raised ladder (for the ninja to kill) and a couple of really agile enemies that will have to be grappled (by the monk) in order for them to be neak-attacked. Hang the threat of an voice-activated golem guard over their head if the guards are alerted... which is a foe the whole party would be essentially useless against. Heck, if the party is more lawful it could be the vauilt of a neighbouring hostile country, and the artefact their best deterrent against war: once the PCs have nicked it, and evaded deadly bouinty hunters and counterspies to get it home, then suddenly the enemy nation has lost their most important bargaining chip... it would be as if one of the superpowers in the cold war suddenly lost all of its nukes. |

The noble is the main goal, but he's neither big nor bad, he's only a 1st level Aristocrat. The real challenge is in sneaking past his guards and traps. Or a mission to retrieve the Map of the Seven Isles. There's nothing even remotely close to a "boss" anywhere in the place, just a whole lot of guards, puzzles, and traps. |
| jeffepp12-13-06, 11:42 PM | Use some Bond movie stuff. Mission Impossible, both the movies and the TV shows. Any Dirty Dozen movie. Special forces anything at all. Lots of good stuff, sounds fun. And don't forget that stealth isn't just not being seen, it's also walking in in plain sight and pulling something off, and walking right back out. |
| Mock2612-13-06, 11:52 PM | Well, put them in a campaign in an independant city that is huge, larger than say, Waterdeep, and the city is actually run by various different thief's guilds. The entire city could be crawling with sneaky types. This would give you a good excuse for even common people from have elaborate anti-stealth measures in their humble abodes. Of course, I'm thinking of the Thief's Guild book series as I type this. Take care and have a great day.... ciao, john. |
