| Khadmus10-10-07, 07:38 AM | I am about to start a new campaign. What level should my PCs be if I want them to fight a variety of aberrations? I only have the MM and the ECS. |
| Cifer10-10-07, 12:26 PM | There are a lot of different aberrations, beginning with the CR 2 Choker and ending with advanced Mindflayers and Aboleths. I'd advise starting in the midlevels (around 7), which is when Mind Flayers and their kind are still tough, but somewhat beatable. By the way, I'd advise getting your hands on Lords Of Madness. And please, please use the psionic rules for 'Flayers and Aboleths. They just feel wrong without them. |
| Khadmus10-10-07, 01:04 PM | What's wrong with the non-psionic aboleth? But midlevels, thanks. The neogi sound good, I'll get LoM. |
| Cifer10-10-07, 04:49 PM | What's wrong with the non-psionic aboleth? Hm... how to put that? Both races are just built for psionics. If you take it out, you might as well say "Well, there's this class. It's called cleric. It hasn't got spellcasting, but it can select a number of spell-like abilities per day, the DCs and CL of which are calculated as follows:" The result is more or less the same, but the non-psionics are just so... clunky. |
