| Inyotef06-11-05, 10:06 AM | Hi..can a Detect Magic spell be used to identify whether someone is under the influence of a Charming Gaze (su) special attack of a Spirit Naga? |
| prettyripples06-11-05, 10:18 AM | Charming Gaze works like Charm Person, so it would leave an Aura. Depending on how long you used Detect Magic for, you might learn "Ooh. There's a spell on this person" or "This person is the victim of a spell from the Enchantment (Charm) school, and it's mind-affecting." No prizes for guessing what that is, then... |

According to the DMG, "supernatural abilities are magical but not spell-like." It seems like these would argue against a Detect Magic being able to identify the effect. |

Since the spell is "detect magic" and not "detect spells only", i would say I could detect that there was indeed a magical aura around the person. Perhaps even, that it was unlike most other magic, and seemed to have an odd glow/color/taste to it, almost like it wasn't from the same kind of magic I was familiar with. I agree with everyone though, you wouldn't get "it is a charm cast by a Naga", no matter how you interpret the ability. |
