| shogunboy04-10-07, 10:30 PM | For now, I'm going to ask this one question. If I wanted to do a canpaign where the PC at first level get a weapon that looks normal, but then later becomes more magical each level that the Pc gain. Should I do this, or should I do something else? |
| Bladerock04-10-07, 10:40 PM | Sounds good as long as you know how to keep it balanced. I would say the weapon would get the equivalent of a +1 enhacement every three or more levels. having it at +1 every two levels or less might be too fast. But it depends on how good do you want your PC's equipment to be. Giving the weapons more "miscelaneous" abilities (abilities not available as magical enhacements) is completely up to you and i would need to see them to know wether they are balanced. It is a solid idea you are having though. |
| Crash16904-10-07, 10:52 PM | Read the Weapons of Legacy book. It has rules on such weapons. |
| Zorminster04-10-07, 11:25 PM | also, an increasingly powerful wont be much help in a canpaign. I imagine if the players were in an actual caMpaign, then perhaps it would be good, but for your stated purpose I imagine a can-opener would be better than any +1 Holy avenging flame bursting sword of ultimate destruction. ...couldnt resist. Anyway, i'm not sure if your asking about a weapon that grows in power, if so then I agree with +1 every 3/4 levels would be good. Just remember that you should count this against the player wealth or they will quickly dominate any properly selected, equal CR encounter. If however, you're simply asking about a weapon that they can enchant with new bonuses as they progress then that is perfectly acceptable as well. The only requirement is that the weapon is masterwork when it is purchased. After purchase it can have enchantments added to it whenever for the price listed in the DMG; just remember it must be +1 before it gets any special enhancements like flaming, bane, or something similar. Also remember that an enhancement bonus of +5 is the limit for pre-epic play. |
| shogunboy04-10-07, 11:29 PM | I'm also going to roll d100 to see if they get +1 enchantment, and how long, and all weapons will have one effect (like skillful for example), but only those that doesn't help rack up damage, or effects like fortification. |
| Imatash04-10-07, 11:44 PM | Read the Weapons of Legacy book. It has rules on such weapons. If you don't have that book check the new adventure on the website of White Plume Mountain. It has some examples of those types of weapons. Imatash |
| pres_man04-11-07, 12:21 AM | I don't have that book, but you could do it similiar to how samauri did in Oriental Adventures. Basically, they go to a shrine or something and "sacrifice" wealth equal to the enhancement they "awaken" in the weapon. Keeps it balanced and gives it a little flavor. |
| shogunboy04-11-07, 08:34 PM | By the way, what page in Weapons of Legacy talks about mundane items becoming a WoL (Weapon of Legacy)? Also, the stuff in there won't be open for character level 1-4 (starting at 1), so I'll check the website instead to see. |
| shogunboy04-12-07, 06:25 PM | I am going to bump, because even though its close to three hours away, I need to bump, because I just need an answer to my question before this post. |
| shogunboy04-14-07, 02:41 AM | Well, until someone is going to answer this question from over 48 hours ago, I'm going to keep bumping as I don't know where else I can go for answers. |
| yellowdingo04-14-07, 05:03 AM | Bonded Weapons Starts out as a normal Bone weapon. Evolves to varying stages of magical enchantment. It absorbs experience that would otherwise go to the PC, the Xp going towards the xp value of each level of magic weapon. Once it reaches its limit it might develop its own intelligence, and attempt to return to it's true master. |
| shogunboy04-16-07, 02:11 AM | I still have a question that need to be solved... By the way, what page in Weapons of Legacy talks about mundane items becoming a WoL (Weapon of Legacy)? |
