| Fable09-30-03, 11:46 PM | Anyone seen online references for the fey? I have read the fey feature and think it is very cool but I was really looking for a basic overview. I am familar with the general mythology but not sure how they fit into the d&d realm. Is fey a template? Lastly, would you think that a fey courtier might use a giant dragonfly as a mount? Many thanks. |

This is a technical term in DnD -- Fey are subject to fey-bane weapons, in the same way that dragons are subject to dragon-bane weapons and orcs are subject to orc-bane weapons. And so on. As I recall, there are also a handful of special abilities/qualities associated with the type. And no, "fey" is not a template, any more than "orc" is a template. "Half-fey" is, though. I think I recall that one as being in the Fiend Folio. Finally, on the subject of the giant dragonfly as a steed: I don't see why fey shouldn't use one as a steed. I think you'd need magical items to do it, though -- vermin are not normally subject to training as mounts because they have a teeny little Int score, and this gets in the way of the conditioning for complex behavior that you need to train them. So you'd need to have a magical saddle/bridle to do this. Personally, I'd just have them ride something that's easier to train. Maybe pull a line out of one of Ariel's lyrics from The Tempest: "On the bat's back I do fly / after summer merrily" and give your fey a bat to ride -- or in the case of the medium-sized fey, a dire bat. |

Oh, excellent!! That is very helpful. I want to have the bard in my game invited to play for the unseelie court so I need info! |
