I'm looking for some suggestions for the deck of "Action Cards" I'm making for a short campaign in the new year.

For more on action cards check out the RPGA campaign cards info on this site or look at the thread over on EN World below:

http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=126566

I want to do something simular.

I've got 100 index cards, a friend of mine suggested splitting them into "common", "rare" and "unique" cards like trading cards, maybe even having "Gesalt/pairing" cards that are more powerful if you own both, or if you and another player both use them together?

Here's what I have so far:

10 "unique" cards, these are really powerful and do things like, give you a free level, a special power, or something else thats OTT but still playable, uniques are not shuffled back into the deck. Once their used they are gone.

30 "rare" cards, these do things like give you a nice wedge of xp, allow you to auto-pass your next save, or get a large bonus to a skill/ability check. rares get shuffled back into the deck.

60 "common" cards, these are things like: +5 to your next attack roll or +10 speed for this game only or the next spell you cast is cast at 1 level higher than normal.

I havent got it all worked out yet and was hoping you could help fill out the deck.

Post your suggestions in the following way, make your description as gushingly, bombastic/pretentious as you like:D:

Tickle me Mystra! (Rare, If your not a spell caster draw again)

You embrace the strands of the weave, knowing her like a lover, together creating a powerful arcane symphony as your spell reaches climax!

Play: The next time you cast a spell.
(If you dont wish to use this card on your next casting, you can hold it for later, but you must roll 1d6, a result of 1 meaning you lose this card.)

Benefit: Your spell is cast 1d4 levels higher than normal and is not used up.

I'm not sure I'd use these in my game -except maybe for a silly campaign- but I love the concept. Here are some thoughts, though I don't know what I'd do for rarity in your system:

What could possibly go wrong?
Play: Immediately before someone makes a die roll.
Effect: This die roll automatically fails. Roll it anyway, just to see if it would have succeeded, but this card is used up either way.

Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.
Play: In combat. Choose a target creature, who must not yet have taken any damage in this combat.
Effect: You are under the effects of a Rage (identical to a first-level barbarian) as long as the target creature is still alive. However, you must attack the target creature whenever you are able to do so until it dies. If you cannot attack the target, you must move towards it until you can attack it again.

Mein Fuhrer! I can walk!
Play: In combat. Choose one target creature.
Effect: The next time the target moves (not counting five-foot steps), a fireball (caster level = your character level) immediately detonates, centered on the target. The target is unaware of this effect before it happens.

Ah! I see you have the machine that goes PING!
Play: Anytime
Effect: An invisibility purge effect (caster level 10) centers on you.

SNAAAAAAAAAAKE!
Play: When both you and at least one other creature die from the same effect.
Effect: You (and only you) are retroactively immune to whatever effect would have killed you, but only during this round.

Sanka, you dead?
Play: In combat. Choose a target creature.
Effect: The target creature is nauseated for one round, then sickened for one round, then stunned for one found.

That hurt, you &*@$!
Play: When you are about to be damaged
Effect: You take no damage from this particular attack. However, if this attack has any effects other than damage, these effects still take place. This card only provides protection against one attack; other attacks, even from the same source, still do full damage.

Denied!
Play: When another Action Card has been played.
Effect: The Action Card which was played has no effect.

Yoink!
Play: Anytime. Choose a target player (or NPC with Action Cards)
Effect: Take an Action Card at random from the target, and give them this card. You may not use this card if it was used against you less than two rounds ago, but after two rounds you may use it normally.

'Spoing'? That's never good...
Play: During combat. Choose a target creature, who must be wearing armor.
Effect: On the target's next six actions, roll a d6. On a one, the target's armor breaks and is rendered useless. The armor can be repaired normally. This card does not effect natural armor.

Ahem... there's SAND on my boots!
Play: In combat. Choose a target creature.
Effect: The target creature may not take any move actions next turn, nor may any allied creatures immediately adjacent to him.

Thanks for the input! :D

The mini campaign I'm using these action cards for is a light hearted 10-game adventure for a group of my little sisters friends, I say "little sister" but she's actually 17 and as for her friends, well their aged 15-17 (I think).

She (my sis) started playing in our campaign a while ago and her friends have heard all about the adventures her character "Elliari" has been having and now they want to find out what its all about, they are big Final Fantasy fans and only one of them has even heard of D&D before.

I'm using this mini game as a testing ground for action cards and some optional rules. ;) I want their first experience of D&D to be extra fun and exciting.

A good idea for a "rare" might be something along the lines of a "summon materia" from FF?

I remember seeing something I thought was cool that sounded like what you're looking for though it was a work, at least in part, by the guy who does Dork Tower so it might be a little wacky for your taste. It was a box of card that you drew during the game to do interesting things. I'm sure you can find a better description of it on dorkstormpress.com if your at all interested.

D&D with magic in it. Sounds fun :D.

Excuse me while I go and create a game.
