You will get more responses if you describe the item, your party, their play patterns, the current story arc.

Hell, basically anything more than, "Hey, I'm using a game mechanic, got any tips?"

What are you uncertain about, exactly? Are you worried it's to powerful? Too challenging?

Do you want tips on describing the effects to players? Do you need help with how to introduce the item into the game? What?

party, the two members that are involved with this drug, is a tiefling (he is the one who made the twinkie) and a 28 year old, ADHD, radiant dragon, who is addicted to the stuff

and thats about it i think that you would need to know, let me know if there is anything else

So what are you uncertain about? how it works?uhhhhh... yes?
Romtos

uhhhhh... yes?

You could be uncertain about:
-The way it works
-The effects on your campaign
-The usefulness
-The way it matches with your pink robe

So, whether the 'uhhhhh' is sarcastic or a product of your ignorance, this is the case. :)

Ok, so in translation, I need help with something. I don't really know what it is, so I can't tell you. I need help with an item, but I don't know what the item is. Its addicting, like a twinkie. Help me please.

I would try and get more information. Like what the ITEM IN QUESTION IS! But I think I have already spent more time in this thread than I need to.

Treat it as a drug with negligible side affects, unless you eat huge amounts of them, in which case you get a sugar high(haste) then crash(slow)

Make players do a will save based on how hard you think it is to resist the urge to continue eating twikies. If they fail this save... they have the urge to eat another one on the next reasonable opportunity, which then promts a new save. If the charater fails to eat a new twinki within XX amount of time (again based on how hard it is to resist the twinki) he will take a penalty based upon what you think happens to the person under Twinki addiction who is not able to saciate the addiction.

This is a good example of addiction made into rules.

Does this help any? i am confused as to what you want to hear...

50 or 60ish. Twinkies are hard to resist :D . Probably in the 14-16 range. Hard for a first level commoner, but after a few weeks they should be able to. Adventurers, no problem.

Incidentally, what exactly are the effects?

Incidentally, what exactly are the effects?the effects i came up with, are a sugar rush, which leads to a down period where speed is slowed and such like that
and after much, much uses of this drug, i have diabetes being an effect of it as well

I would strongly caution you against getting one of your PC's addicted to anything... In one of my campaigns I had a PC hooked on 'happy fun nuts'. The player killed off the character after about two sessions of him being forced into dumb actions because of his addiction.

Roleplaying an addict is almost as fun as being one.

I just have to say, the OP makes my brain hurt. Just like that girl I dated, who always said "Hey, stop what your doing, I wanna talk." and then when I did, and ask "Ok, about what?" she says "Oh I dunno. I just want to talk." Which results in the thought process of "OMG I want to STAB you in the HEAD if you aren't going to use it!" :embarrass I'm going away now...

he would actually like the addiction for giving his character a reason for doing such dumb actions

That's 'cuz on a psychological level, women discuss things casually to form bonds, find similarities in thought process, and better understand people. They are looking for "soft facts."

Men, in casual settings, discuss things to convey and garner information. "Hard facts."

The reason she usually pulled that number in you while you were doing something is that she felt a disconnect (because you weren't focused on her) and she wanted to make sure you guys were still tight.

'Course it wasn't really that concious (she didn't actually think "I hope he still likes me, I better make sure), that was just what her gut said she should do. Guys have all sorts ticks like this, too. They aren't the same, but they are (I expect) really frustrating to women.

But yea, that's a little off topic.

trapspringer, I have to say, I'm amazed.

Someone on the D&D forum brought up a gender-interaction issue, and someone else managed to respond with a thoughtful, non-judgmental analysis of the socially-reinforced communication habits of men and women. I'm fairly certain this has never happened before.

amazing

What's amazing is that you expected help on something without providing information or money. Generally, when someone asks for help without giving any assistance in the process of fixing whatever problem is occurring, they compensate the folks helping them.

An example is when someone drops their car off at a mechanic. Generally, the car owner lacks the knowledge of what is wrong, or how to fix it. Hence, they pay a specialist to not only fix it, but figure out what is wrong with it. If someone were to take their car to a shop then say "I need my brakes done. I don't want anything else done, as that is the only problem, just fix my brakes. In fact, I don't need the entire unit replaced, I just need my break pads fixed." chances are good that would end up saving them money due to not having to pay for the labor of the mechanic searching the car for the problems the owner is bringing the car in for. At least, thats how it works with the mechanics I know. That extra half hour of searching a car over might very well cost a person an extra $50 in labor.

By not bothering to take the time, or effort to put any relevant information into not only your first post, but for a number of posts after that you wasted the time of numerous people, including your own. Wasting a persons time repetitively is an incredibly effective way of causing frustration, disgust, anger, irritation and resentment. Perhaps this was your intent, in which case, good job. ;)

Some do, she just needed constant attention due to lack of self esteem. If no one was talking to her or doing things for her, she felt no one cared for her regardless of the relationship she had with them. Things like calling someone in the middle of the night when they are sleeping in order to "chat" but having nothing to talk about were typical. Nice thought process though, as I do know I do things that irritate others just as others do things to irritate me.

Well, maybe not here. I've seen it happen before though, and on a forum dedicated to the game no less.

Don't misunderstand, I wasn't calling you out when I mentioned that men have social patterns women find frustrating (or even suggesting you were in any way in the wrong.) That was intended to be extremely general.

You could ...
have people make a Will or Fort save (depending on if it is mentally or physically addictive). Failure means addiction! Then every so often (you determine, daily, weekly hourly, whateverly :)) they make another save. If they fail again, they lose a point from Con or Wis until they partake of the addictive stuff again. If they do save, they are fine ... for now.
Then you decide how much this costs/availability kind of thing depending on how prominent you want it to be in your game.
