The only reference I have noticed is under kobold, Challenge Rating: Kobolds with levels in NPC classes have a CR equal to their character level –3. It isn't an 1/1 ratio normally, is it? |

As Vharuck stated, a 10th level warrior would be CR 9. The second is if you are adding NPC classes to existing hit dice (such as monster HD or PC classes) The SRD States: Adding a nonassociated class level to a monster increases its CR by 1/2 per level until one of its nonassociated class levels equals its original Hit Dice. At that point, each additional level of the same class or a similar one is considered associated and increases the monster’s CR by 1. Levels in NPC classes are always treated as nonassociated. So if you had an ogre (CR 3) and gave him 4 levels of warrior, he would be 3 + 4/2 = CR 5 (since orgres have 4HD). |
