| jaked40907-28-07, 06:04 PM | I used to play Dungeons and Dragons quite a bit, but I stopped for a long time (just before 3rd edition). Now my girlfriend is interested in it, and wants to play with me. Eventually we're going to find other people to play with, but no one's around over the summer, so for now, we were just going to play together. The way we're going to do it is, she'll have a character, I'll have a character, and I'll DM. I've DMed + played a character before, and it worked out fine. However, all the lvl 1 campaigns I've found say they are meant for 4+ characters. I'd rather not have each of us play two characters (especially since she's a beginner), so does anyone know of a good general way of altering the campaigns to be suitable for two characters? My plan at the moment is to cut the number of monsters in half, but I figured others might have run into a similar problem, and might have a better-tested solution. Thanks in advance! |

Each EL up multiplies that difficulty by the number of ELs up (twice for 1 EL up, three times for 2 EL up, etc.), and each EL down divides the difficulty by the same. As such, a single 4th level character has the same power level as 4 1st level characters, and 2 2nd level characters. A level 1 campaign for 4 players therefore, should start with a single 4th level character or 2 2nd level characters. |
