| rbrt_Spade12-30-05, 12:57 PM | www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=rpga/membership/writing This gave me a lot of advice for myself planning things. The dmg 2 is supposed to have advice. You can also get a good way to learn by running a few premade adventures. Ive noticed that a lot of dms come up with thier own ways to do it. The way I run up with ideas. First I will go threw fantasy books & the dnd books for ideas. Then I brainstorm, thinking how I can tie that in with the setting and players. The adventure I written last night and dming tonight is about a lord wanting adventurers to slay orcs. They have been raiding the local area. Then I go threw the mm looking for the encounters I want in the adventure I talor it somehow into the adventure. I went threw the mm and chose to put orcs in it, so I put it in the storyline. I wanted orcs, so the monsters raiding is orcs. Then comes npcs. I will often draw them from fantasy books I read. The lord is like the baron from the book Brothers In Arms(dl). I then will look at the traits page of the dmg, choosing ones close to the person in the book. ALso I choose his genral personality to his race, class, and alignment. Then I just weave it all together. You will in time, learn your style of dming. It just comes to you I think. Good luck to you! |
