I need some adventure ideas that'll both bring the party together and send them on their first mission for a new campaign.

I was thinking along of the lines of all the characters sitting in a pub, then a merchant walks in, talks to the barkeep and nails a notice to the wall. Basically, the note would read that a caravan is looking to hire several people to guard it on their journey. Perhaps I'll have the caravan get ambushed by bandits of some sort, and a valuable item gets stolen. Now they PCs have to recover it.

Thoughts on that, or any other ideas are welcome.

Hmm, should have mentioned I already checked those out and nothing really grabbed my attention. I guess I should mention I've already been through the Sunless Citadel with this group, too.

Thanks though.

sometimes its the unique twists that make it original. had a similar plot only instead the valueable cargo was the body of a young boy whos necromancer grandfather wanted to animate. so the party ends up besieged by undead and tries to get the body safe and sound to a chruch of kelemvor to be properly buried and have the body made unusable by said necormancer.

the pcs left one npc ally to die that night. he returned as a ghoul and killed the bard for his cowardice.

infiltrate the city but their attacks don't seem to be random. It's almost as if they're looking for something. Victims of their sneak attacks are other adventurers and the merchants who buy looted treasure from them.

They're trying to recover an item that was taken from the body of a Goblin Adept by an adventuring group. They need it back to fight off a band of Bugbears, who will make good bad guys for the next leg of the campaign.

Add a few levels of Rogue to the lowly Gobbo and you have a bad guy who is hard to Spot- +4 to Move Silently and Hide, can see in the dark, has full move- 30 in light armor, and can do decent damage- sneak attack offsets the smaller damage die. Plus, your level 1 group will never again say "They're only Gobbos".
