1. A small town has come down with a virus..one they do not know of and is part of a long forgotten curse. Well an old elf remembers and noone can leave that town or the virus will spread. The PC's must keep the people/citizens in the walls....surely a riot will ensue....

A suicide bomber on a market square. :D Sure as hell they were surprised!
They are now in the process of figuring out what has happened and what led up to such an act...

My favorite? A sudden rash of kidnappings all across the province, targeting only spellcasters, points to a highly organized and disciplined criminal organization. This may be familiar to some, but it's the dilemma that sets the PCs on the trail of a series of adventures in the 2E super-module Night Below.

What was arguably the "best" in my games was a meteor shower obliterating the Imperial presence on the continent the game took place in. Vague prophecy, assassination attempts, underhanded political scheming, whispers of war and a race against time before certain artifacts fell into "the wrong hands" kept my players busy and excited until the game's conclusion after a TPK.

Incidentally, it was most memorable because it provided a spin on the old campaign starter cliche when the tavern they were all sitting in was knocked from its foundation by a falling meteor.

The Meaning Of Life

An awakened but not animated (Int score but no con score) golem which has the power to look like a normal member of the base races. And she's a Wizard without memories of a life lived, but she has skill points spent and a spell book she found when she "woke up" in an abandoned tower.
Being like nothing in the realms that any of the PCs have heard of they're soon joined in the mystery by a high level Wizard who wants to understand the nature of the magic which brought her into being. (Not every high level wizard has all the 9th level spells yet, and she's a unique golem type.)
So at the end of each turn of the mystery a new facet of what being "alive" is found. From emotions and feelings, to memory, to the sense of being, to a connection with the world around you, and finally to an understanding of the self and a grave choice to make.
The Golem, much to the surprise of the players, was made from the dead flesh of someone. That someone died of unknown reasons at an unknown time but because the body was tied up as a Golem it meant no ressurection. (I felt it would be the same as being an undead for purposes of revival.) And now she knows she was someone else.
So, is the self of the moment, an animate construct with memories and feelings generated by magic and animated by the presence of an elemental .. worth more than the person who used to stand there?
Sadly one of the gaming group left for China for 4 months and the plot was abandoned right at the end. I've been meaning to rerun it and find out how it turns out.
One player really liked it, one player felt that the barmaid (that being the golem, they, in tried and true fashion met her in a bar brawl) was just awesome, and the third felt the serious nature of the sub-campaign was too much for his liking. All in all it went over well though.

Have a Nice Day! :cheer:

A powerful chruch is seeking an Item refered to as 'The Wand of Making, rumored to be the device used to create existance. The only catch is if it used again, the universe would be flooded with so much positive energy that the suns would be extinguished, all living creatures would rapidly age and die, and things would generally be unpleasant. But all the players know is they found a letter on the body of some creature posting a MASSIVE cash reward to the 'agent' that can find The Wand of Making.
