In about a week I'm going to be starting my reign as DM. But first I want to just play a single scenario so that I can see how my characters play, than I will be getting into my campaign. But sadly I haven't been able to come up with any kind of first adventure, and what I need from all of you folks is ideas. There will be three characters (one ranger, one bard, and one fighter.). I need some ideas that will be fun exciting and perferably new.

In my opinion all of the adventure ideas in the thread 1001 adventure ideas are for higher characters than level 1, and the adventure ideas in the DMG arn't much better. Anyone out there that has adventure ideas that they have used or just thought of would be great. These adventures can be in any area.

You can seach the Wyrm's Hoard to find adventures for 1st level characters. If you're looking for something small, you might look for one of the free Wizard adventures:

Over in this (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=227072) thread, I posted a good way to start adventures out. It only works once, though.

The Burning Plague is a free downloadable adventure on the Wizards D&D site. I loved it when I played it as a pc, and it looked easy to dm. I suggest you try it out.

A convenient starting adventure, especially for level 1, is the courier mission. Someone hires you to bring X things to location Y, delivering it to person Z.

This can be a lead off to alot of campaigns, since you introduce two locations, two NPCs, and something potentially important.

For example, the two of them could be plotting a revolt, and you're couriering a message. Or maybe they're arranging a wedding, and you can follow up by escorting the bride to her groom-to-be. Etc, etc.

Encounters along the way could include brigands (so the party can either try to talk their way around, sneak their way around, or just bash their way through), assorted animals (for the ranger to practice their wild empathy on), etc.

Hope this helps.

If you're wanting a quick "mini-adventure" I can email you the one I used to start my campaign. It shouldn't take 3 players more than an hour to finish it. Pm me if you'd like to see it.

I started my campaign with a simple bounty hunt. A young woman had been convicted of a crime and sentenced to death. Because she was of high rank, they let her spend her final days in her father's estate. She, of course, took it on the lam.

The guards cornered her in some old ruins but refused to go in after her because they were rumored to be haunted. The PCs were hired to go get her.

All this takes is a small dungeon with some kind of backdoor or other potential escape route (otherwise she wouldn't have gone there in the first place) and something to give it the reputation of being haunted.

In my case, the 'backdoor' was a sea cave being used by smugglers and the 'haunting' was the work of a crazy wizard and some low level monsters - the wizard & some goblins worked to make people think it was haunted so they'd stay away and the skeletons were, basically, haunting the place.

Unless you're really pressed for time, I suggest staying away from freebies you can get off the web. There's just too great of chance that the players will get it too.
