| Drone2305-02-04, 10:49 AM | Now, now, play nice... Ratguy, When I get blocked I whip out the old Monster Manual and start flipping pages. I find a monster I haven't used very often and read its description. That's usually enough to get an adventure seed going. Ripping off movies is another tried and true resource for the DM. Just make sure it isn't a really popular movie so the player's don't catch on too quick or change it so much that it's almost unrecognizable. Example, I wrote an urban adventure involving the xill. Read the monster description. Sounds a lot like Alien, doesn't it? Rip off a bit of the plot from Aliens and there you go. The PCs are holed up in a small town for the winter and the townsfolk start getting sick from a mysterious disease (the aftereffects of being impregnated by xill eggs), they investigate and find an entire abandoned warehouse full of xill using the town as breeding stock. A tougher version of this would use red slaad. For rural adventures you can't go wrong with the old westerns. Not too many people watch them and the simpler good vs. evil plots are easy to write. Make the evil cattle baron a merchant with some really heavy "cowhands" (ie thugs) and you're in business. Or check out the old D&D Fight Club for interesting NPCs to base an adventure around. Hope that helps. |
| password05-02-04, 03:26 PM | My idea: A mysterious Person asks the characters to fetch an magic artifact from a place far away... the person sends one of his men with the adventurers to look after 'em...when the players arrive, they see that the playe is very dangerous, an old, deep hall in the mountains or something... when they got the artifact after a dangerous trip to the - place - , the person comes ridden on a dragon, attacks them, grabs the artifact and disappears with it. He nearly kills his man, and he swears revenge. He tells the players that the person wants to become allmighty (with the artifact) and change the world into a dark place. The players have to find the evil guy and stop him. (final battle) P.S.: on the way to the artifact, the players sometimes find traces of the dragon: the person follows them... |
