Hi,

Now my group (only my brother) have started playing D&D. This is my first time really DMing so I was a little nervous. He is a 3rd level fighter and I gave him a 1st level NPC Cleric for help.
My Adventure is:
The adventure starts with Wreck Ashore Adventure from WOTC website. The only difference is that they find a weird tatoo on captains arm. They go back to Seawell and talk to the mayor about the tatoo. The mayor tells them it is the brand of a Guild which tries to take over the coastal region by ruining the cities and tells them that the guild has a building in this town. That night they are attacked by a rogue. They kill him and find the same tatoo. They track him to find the HQ. Then the NPC thinks of a plan. They make a gather information check to find a powerful wizard in town. They do and ask him to build a bomb and few alchemists fire. After a week they take the bomb kill the guards on the door of the HQ and put the bomb in then they push the button and run. It explodes . After they throw the alchemists fires to burn everyone inside.

This is where we are.

Now my main question is: What is the appropriate CR for that group (Level 3 fighter/now level 2 cleric)? They killed the level 3 rogue without armor at all!!! The guard was a level 4 Warr'or and it took a little longer but they didn't even had a scratch. In wreck ashore they killed the captain and the first mate in TWO FREAKIN' ROUNDS!!!!

The Second question:What do you think of the story? I am planning that they are kidnapped soon after and taken to the main HQ where they find the BBEG.

Also I DM like this:
Every episode I have my goals. (Like blasting that HQ) but I only write down the NPCs. The DC's I only think them when they are needed? What do you think of it? I don't write the DC's I just randomly or according to their skill levels determine it when it is needed.

You should really increase the level of the solo PC--4th or 5th should be high enough to handle a 1st level adventure solo or with a little backup.
