Hello,

I am about to start a solo Iron Heroes campaign where the PC wants to find the man who killed his parents (the PC wants to be an assasin too so I thought that an agency might give him info on the whereabouts of the man for some succesful assignments.) I designed a huge dungeon for the villain. There will be a small chase in the end and a cave in. The only way out is through the mouth of a cave which leads to the Unknown (icy, unexplored lands) There will be a tent plenty of food, torches, fishing hooks and sleds and dogs for the trip. It seems that the villian was preparing to go to the Unknown. So can you give me any advice on adventures that can be experienced in the icy plains. Note that I dont want to use monster (maybe one or two) until the very end. Can you give advice on adventures based on the terrain?

Thanks

Don't forget the battle on the ice bridge. One wrong step and its instant death. Constant Balance checks, so everyone's flat-footed for the entire encounter (give the BBEG some levels in rogue for sneak attack damage + some spiked boots so he doesn't have to make the balance checks himself).

I know you said no monsters, but a boulder slinging Yeti or two could be fun.

You could also do a snow variant of a displacer beast, giving it white fur instead of black.

Situational encounter while he is sleding over a frozen pond, maybe have the ice crack with either one of the dogs falling through, requing him to rescue it without breaking the ice and falling through himself, or having the sled fall partially through the ice, requiring him to make balance checks to avoid making it worse, and then figuring out how to get his sled out.

some more background for the encounter:
The villain is level 12 (10 lvl Arcanist 2 Man at Arms) so the PC will be about 11 or 12 th level. Maybe an avalanche would be good too. And that icy bridge was it on DMG II?
Thanks

You could use the book Frostburn.

Note that you're only flatfooted while balancing if you have less than 5 ranks in balance.

That is correct. I was thinking of my current group as I was suggesting it. They are currently level 9-10 and out of the six players, only one has more than 5 ranks in balance.
