| Oompa02-19-07, 02:30 PM | So.. my adventures were mostly simple adventures for my pc's and they like it, most is hack and slash, simple puzzles and stuff.. Soon they'll have to get an item from a kobold high chief.. how do i let my pc's know, slaughtering them all isnt the way to get everything done.. I know my pc's, if they see an guard patrol they'll attack fast.. But would kobolds still ask what the pc's are doing in there forest while arrow's flying around the kobold's head? I know its there decision if they want to fight, with a chance they won't get the item or get killed.. But how do i make them clear.. ingame.. that roleplaying is always an option? |

But how do i make them clear.. ingame.. that roleplaying is always an option?I used to have players like that, one thing to do is let them slaughter their way through a couple of adventures...Then, when they can't sovle them, or it becomes extremely hard for them to, let your players know that they are having a harder time/not able to progress further because they killed a key NPC somewhere, it makes for a couple of rough adventures to start with, but eventually they'll get the idea. Another option that I've used involved the PCs killing people that they thought were bandits, it later turned out to be minor nobles/knights of the realm on a hunt, who thought the PCs were the bandits... |

This one might insist he doesn't want a bloodshed, since it could start a long-term war with the neighboring human villages. Or their employer could be really afraid of the kobold high chief, a sorcerer level 17, with a dozen of high-level kobold bodyguards. Or if the PCs start by attacking a random patrol, have the last kobold standing fall on his knees, claiming he knows how to help the PC, he's just a poor kobold trying to survive, etc. |
