Flarg. I may have bitten off more than I can chew this time.

Okay, here's the plot: Last night, I was talking to a friend who had recently moved away and he was talking about how he wanted to get his game on.
So I suggest we do a PbP over in my forums.

One problem... I've never done, nor participated in a PbP. So... no players lined up yet, except my friend and very little idea how to run this thing.

So House Ashland is asking for your help. I need a serious crash course in running a PbP and fast.

Here's the campaign premise as stands:
The game is a political intrigue campaign set in my Homebrew, Ere. They are all members in some way, shape or form of the minor house Oralu, in a time when the Major Houses of the city are maneuvering for control of some of the more lucrative (and less legal) trades in the city: a new magic item creation technique that's having unexpected consequences for those who use the finished product.

A big thanks in advance for any help :)

I play in a forum-based Changeling game that's been around for just over a year. (Catch up on A Learning Experience here (http://rustaz.com/bbs/index.php?showforum=19).) Personally, I think it's going well.

A few things to keep in mind:

Time gets flaky. That is, several days of real-life can pass before everyone manages to post a few minutes of game time.
Turn summaries are a must. Because of the time that will elapse between turns/scenes/major encounters it is absolutely vital that the GM post turn summaries somewhere. The Gamemistress of the aforementioned Learning Experience edits the forum threads and posts the result on the website she maintains for the game. This makes life very easy if (when?) you need to refer back to a past event.
Combat is a royal pain in the arse. Everyone has to post with their actions before the GM can roll the dice and post the result for each combat round. You maight be able to speed this up a little by requiring players to post within a given time limit. Thost failing to meet the deadline are assumed to either take no action or repeat their last stated action, whichever is most appropriate. Even then, the core problem remains the same: it takes a long time to resolve even a few rounds.

If you'd like a little more advice, feel free to create an account on the board hosting A Learning Experience and send The Gamemistress a private message. Be sure to let her know that I referred you.

I run 3 campaigns on my personal play by post rpg site, you're welcome to look around and see actual games in progress for ideas. My site's forum is at www.playbypostrpg.com/forum

There's a guy running his own Arcana Unearthed (malhavoc press) campaign there too.

Perhaps for combat you could meet in IRC? Or use something like OPENrpg for the whole thing.
