Say a character with spring attack gains the ability to fly through an item or a spell. Will he be able to use spring attack against other airborne targets (or targets on the ground for that matter), while flying? The spell "fly" says that while flying, creatures can attack normally, and things like charge still work, so would I be correct to assume that spring attack works up there as well, or would I need the feat flyby attack to do an effective "spring attack" while in the air?

The simple answer I believe is no.

I'm fairly certain this has come up before and is in the Erratta...not that I can find this anywhere at the moment.

The Dragonlance campaign setting has the feat Flyby Attack, which is similar to Spring Attack or Rideby Attack. It's intended for use on dragonback, but to me this implies that if you're flying, you can't use Spring Attack.
