The rules for aerial combat in the DMG are woefully inadequate. How do you all handle movement in 3 dimensions? Are there more detailed ways of handling aerial combat in other supplements?

Thanks for your time.

We usually hold our figures in one hand and make zooming noises with little machine gun brrraaappps as we pass each other up and down the hall and living room.

Well, that or use pizza box "stands" and a note on altitude.

once, while trying to adapt modern jetfighter combat to D20 rules, I devised a system involving a lot of fishing line and duct tape on the ceiling, but it's king of impractical and takes up an entire room.

I love that it was "king of impractical" - it totally freaking rules in the impractical lands.

Yes.
