| coppro06-23-06, 02:22 PM | In one of the adventures I'm planning, I have this evil cult trying to destroy a nearby village. Simple enough. However, I want to offer the characters an opportunity to join (I doubt they'll take it, but its just one of those things that makes a good DM a good DM). So, I just got the PH2 (gasp, how late!), and I wanted to know whether it would be worthwhile to make it an affiliation. It would simplify some of the work like rank progressions and whatnot, but it may result in me having to commit to putting in more affiliations. Is it worth it? |
| Tusz06-23-06, 02:29 PM | I would say yes, but only do it after the PCs agree to join. The rank info won't come into play right away, and it's just work down the drain if they reject the offer. |
| Feeb06-23-06, 03:51 PM | If you don't intend, or aren't comfortable with, you players getting tangible, game effecting rewards for becoming part of the affiliation (through what ever trials are required to gain membership and advance in rank) then no, don't include it. If the pc's will, ultimately, be set against the cult, it might be best not to include it as an affiliation (nothing to say you can't use it as a foil for RP.) |
| Arganis06-23-06, 04:01 PM | Realistically, half of the affiliation mechanic is devoted to how affiliations interact with one another. This is the problem I began to have when I started writing them up for my campaign. If you're going to create one, you had better be ready to create at least 5 more for that one affiliation to interact with. |
