This just came up in a game. The characters were fighting a wererat, and two contracted the Curse of Lycanthropy. :yuck: Since this grants a +2 level adjustment (provided they don't get it removed, and continue playing as evil little wererats), does this mean (as I'm pretty sure it does) that now, with the characters being 4th level, they're now ECL 6, and must have 21,000 exp before gaining another level (making them 5HD creatures, ECL 7)? This is the way the Saint template from the Book of Exalted Deeds does it, and I was pretty sure this is how it should be (barring the use of the Savage Progressions that Sean K. Reynolds posts on the WotC site).

Also, this +2LA would stack with the +1LA that tieflings have, wouldn't it?

Yes and the LA would stack.
I would try to get them cured though...things just get messy when things like this happen to PC's.

Actually, the ECL would be 7. Don't forget that the one HD of the dire rat form is added in as well.

Your forgetting that a wererat also gives 1 Racial HD so it makes it an over all 3 more levels to the base creature.

In other words your characters are now an ECL 7 character (+4 Character Level, +1 Racial HD, +2 LA). So they need 28,000 EXP to get to be a 5th level fighter or whatever class they were before being afflicted with lycanthropy.

Edit: Dagnabit Denubis :P Oh and 1 Racial HD will only add 1 to there overall ECL

Ha. Beat you to it. And I thought they were fifth level already, but I guess not.
