| Setzertrancer03-10-06, 08:12 PM | I'm running the Age of Worms adventure path for my players starting tomorrow. This is the first adventure path I've run before and I've only run a handful of Modules including Sunless Citadel and Murder at Oakbridge. Anyone have any advice for me about managing an adventure path and running it smoothly. I'm also hoping during this adventure path that I'll be able to encourage my metagamers to roleplay more. So far i've made it compulsory for them to bring backgrounds and I've read them the 'How you play the game' article from Dragon #277. Is there anything else you may suggest. Also should I keep notes about characters they encounter in Age of worms? Any other Ideas to make this the best experience for my players yet? |
| Crocodylus Pontifex03-11-06, 11:53 AM | I've just started AoW (six weekly sessions into it) and am in generally the same situation as you. One important thing to do is foreshadow important events, so be sure to read several adventures ahead and pick out things to mention (Allustan's friend Marzena, Smenk's possible involvement with Dourstone, etc.) As for roleplaying, yes, keep notes on who they encounter, how they interact, who they tick off and other stuff. Use the PC's backgrounds as springboards for side adventures or sub-plots. In my game, the cleric's family is held by Smenk and she's working for him to pay off their servitude. She's witnessed Kullen's brutishness, Smenk's vile business acumen and now suspects him of something worse (supplying Dourstone's cult allies). The dwarf ranger works as a guard to Bitris Ruthek of the Graysmere Covenent and has been tasked to eye the cleric as his bosses believe she may know of Smenk and Dourstone's partnership, which they suspect to be the beginning of another mine accident like the one Dourstone set up some 50 years ago. It's turning out to be a lot of fun and provides interaction between the players and other NPCs. And to soothe my metagamers, they get XP for roleplaying and connecting the dots (or clues). |

I'm not Dming, I'm playing a Tiefling Warmage. ;) My suggestion to you is make the PC's write down all the NPC's names and what they deal with. Our group usually has two weeks in between playing time so it's hard to remember who's in charge of what and how each NPC interacts with another. There are a lot of NPC's in this and they're important to remember so have the players have an NPC list. |
