Hey Everyone,

I'm trying to organize a group to play through the Age of Worms campaign in Dungeon magazine. The problem is I can only find 3 people to play as PCs.

After reading through some of the adventures I'm quite convinced that 3 ordinary PCs would die rather quickly. Ergo, I'm toying with the idea of using gestalt charaters (see http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/gestaltCharacters.htm)

I've never tried that before so I'm just looking for some opinions from people who've either been through the Age of Worms or have experimented with Gestalt characters before.

Thanks a bunch

I haven't done it, but from everything I've read, even 3 Gestalt PCs are pretty much screwed unless you scale the adventures appropriately. Heck, from what I understand, even with the suggested/required 6 PCs the adventure path is hard as hell.

i had some players in a shackled city campaign become gestalt (when we only had 4 players) and than change back (when we got another 3 players--it was no longer needed).

gestalt can help best when rounding out the party at low levels in player roles (ala trapfinder/face/tank/nuker/etc)-- but if anyone in your group is a muchkin-- it can turn ugly really quick when leveling. at low levels they are still vulnerable but at high they can be unbeatable (i experieced madness of a player who was a warlock/rogue, who was sniping from the the darkness for insane damage).

i would just be very careful if using gestalt. you may be better off just raising the party level by 2 above the CR and or giving max hitpoints.

Four PC's of the Suggested level chewed through the adventures, with one poorly made PC dying each session.(Sure, play the Elf mage with 6 Con, and 2 HP). 3 Gestalt might have it too light.
