| Rathje08-18-05, 03:49 AM | This isn't a very serious post. Please don't flame with "Araa! Alignment is an abstract concept that doesn't translate to real life!" I was merely considering this last night and thought I'd ask around. What was Hitler's alignment? I believe he was either Lawful Evil or Chaotic Good. I don't think he quite fits for Chaotic Evil. I think he influenced his nation under a Lawful Evil style, but the killing Jews was Chaotic Good. I don't think killing Jews is right, but he thought he was doing it for a just cause. He wasn't, but it's what he believed. Though, is it what you believe you're doing or what it actually is that matters? The following is taking alignment to a more extreme interpretation simply for the sake of argument. If my friend comes up to me that he needs a couple bucks for bus fare so he can go see his girlfriend, it's probably Neutral Good for me to give it to him. If it turns out his mother said he wasn't to go out today because he needed to clean the house, it could be Neutral Evil for me to help him. However, I don't know that, since he didn't say his mother's side. Was I Neutral Good or Neutral Evil? I think Neutral Good. Under that example, I think Hitler's killing Jews was Chaotic Good. If it was anyone else, it would definitely be Chaotic Evil. That said, what has trump? Lawful Evil or Chaotic Good? Or is my interpretation of Hitler flawed? |
| Fixxxer08-18-05, 03:50 AM | I'll shoot in with Lawful Evil before the mods close this topic. |

| Fixxxer08-18-05, 04:21 AM | Negative on the CG - doesn't matter if you think what you are doing is right. If you think genocide is right, you are Evil in the extreme. But that doesn't make you chaotic, either. Chaotic evil is not "really, really extremely evil." It's evil for no reason besides that's what you feel like at the time. Lawful evil, on the other hand, is evil for a grand purpose. "Genocide may not be noble, but the world will truly be a better place when xxxxx is gone." or "When everyone has blonde hair and blue eyes and looks the same, there won't be any more war because there won't be anything to fight about." |
| Karota08-18-05, 04:38 AM | What was Hitler's alignment? In game terms; lawful evil. In real life terms, lawful good... hahahaha. In real life there are no moral actions; there is no good or evil. Though, is it what you believe you're doing or what it actually is that matters? In D&D, what it actually is. In real life, it should be what you believe. In a D&D game, world is balanced by good and evil forces, and lawful and chaotic too. Then, in the game, there are thing that are evil or good per se, but in real life, the fact that gods doesn´t exist, makes evil or good be abstract philosofies. For instance, christians say they are good, but they killed a lot of people in the Inquisition, and that was a good deed for them, but not for the dead ones. If there existed gods or whatever to rule and balance the real life, then moral actions would be real, and good things would be good and evil ones, always evil. Every religion in this world proclaims to be the only one real and good; in D&D there are gods that call themselves evil and so their worshipers do. In fewer words: In D&D things are what they are indeed. In real life, things are neither fair nor unfair. Wll, killing jews can be lawful good anyway. At least, neutral neutral, because killing bugs is not evil as it is not good. Joking. But jus a little. |
| Nomad4life08-18-05, 06:42 AM | Wow. This thread is so getting locked. But before it does, Hitler was a real-life example of the Stupid Evil alignment; http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=422550 |
| Cantankerous08-18-05, 06:53 AM | Under that example, I think Hitler's killing Jews was Chaotic Good. :uh-huh: :censored: :censored: :censored: Dear God, close this idiocy down fast! Bub, if I were within a two hour drive of you I'd likely hunt you down and throw up in your lap. |
| nyysjan08-18-05, 06:55 AM | This thread is soooo going to be locked down  EDIT- alerted the mods goodbye thread |
| Sjay108-18-05, 07:31 AM | whoei it's still here.....but really CG?..OMG whats this crap? Push that delete button someone :bump: |
| LCD2YOU08-18-05, 07:49 AM | Just sliding in here. Karota, you're a sick man. |
| Thesen08-18-05, 08:07 AM | Yeah, Karota....you're an idiot. And for the record, Hitler was LE. And for the record again - since Karota is a moron - Christians who murdered innocent people during the time of the inquisition were LE as well. Alignment isn't how you perceive yourself, it's based upon your actions and the justifications for them. |
| High Octane08-18-05, 09:09 AM | I think Hitler defines Lawful Evil better than any other person in modern history. |
| Morka08-18-05, 09:09 AM | I'm sincerely sorry for any jew who might take a look at this thread. I'm also sorry for most modern German, because I'm sure most of them feel it was a terrible mistake. Seriously... associating Hitler with anything Good-aligned is completely stupid. The ones who suggested this should have a Wisdom score of 5 or less. Like most french-canadians, I'm against capital punishment, I think it's evil to kill anyone, period. So how can someone claim that killing lots of innocents simply because they are a specific religion/ethnie could be good? |
