Ok, so I was playing a few games like Fable and KotOR and well, I think that I want a campaign where everyone starts out true neutral and works their own path, so they can become what their character really is instead of acting as their alignment. What do you think?

Sure, if you think that works for you. Most of the players that play in my campaign have a pretty good idea of who their characters are before they begin and so have a pre-thought alignment. Or they have a history that details their alignment. But if you prefer a system where everyone starts at true-neutral that works fine too (barring of course those classes that require certain alignments).

Really most of the players I am playing with now have slightly different alignments then when they started anyway.

Just make sure to put them in face of various situations; otherwise, if you send them against an evil necromancer using tons of undeads, you will end with a lot of exalted characters.
- The city/country where they are should be very zenophobic, the law should be against anything too exotic. It's up to you if all the basic PHB races are exotic or not. This way, you can test how lawful/good are the characters.
- There should be high but reasonable taxes, and a blackmarket.
- There should be a market for slaves. Slaves could be anything from talented artists/craftmen to meat for gladiators. A lawful good character could find nothing wrong in "owning" a sculptor, as long as he is treated with respect. OTOH, even a chaotic evil character could be disgusted on what some people could do to "punish" their slaves...
- A tribe of orcs who want peace.

Don't forget the bonuses for the Ponytail of ultimate evil, that is key to any alignment system, bad hair = bad person.

Man... Fable had the most messed up alignment system ever. Did you know that killing your wife is about one tenth as evil as divorcing her? Or that if you go to the only viable training ground in the game for about 20 minutes, even if you entered completely evil, you'll be exalted when you leave?

Complete garbage. Game was fun, though, I'm just hoping Fable 2 will have an alignment system which doesn't suck.

I thought Fable was some violent cartoon mouse movie that I was made to watch when I was a kid?

3 hours?!? Jesus Tap-Dancing Christ... fastest I've heard of is 8.

Peronally it took me 30, but that's because I wasted a lot of time... got 5 wives and bought all of Oakvale. :D

i like to use a sliding scale of g-n-e but the players get to pick where they start or after a few games i put them where they belong

Forget Fable. Thow it's system out the window. I was so disappointed by that game. It wasn't deep....it was very shallow. However, it was really really wide. Lots to do, but not much to any of it.

Anyway, KOTOR has the system you want. Play the game, think about how your actions and decisions actually change your alignment, and you'll see that it makes a lot more sense. I believe it's a much better model for what you want than Fable.

In my oppinion it seems fine to do, just a bit pointless... The whole point of the D&D alignment system is that you play the alignment that fits your character, and if your not doing that then the DM changes your alignment. The point is you play the character as you think it should be played, not how the alignment dictates it should. Your actions dictate you alignment, not the other way round. Basically all your doing is starting all the characters at the same alignment, and then just changing it anyway...

Plus you'd have the headache of how to have it work for classes with a required alignment. And then if your characters write a great backstory for a different alignment, then they'd have to either change it, or it would just not make sense. So basically what are you trying to get out of this that isn't already in the D&D system? (BTW I'm not saying its a bad idea, I just don't understand what you think you'd get from it)
