Alignment technicalities.... [Archive] - Wizards Community

01-02-06, 09:10 AM My party consists of the following alignments:

LG Samurai
NG Cleric of Pelor
NG Scout
CG Fighter
CG Ninja
CG Warmage
CN Favored Soul

The Favored Soul is working on becoming a Stormlord (a PrC from Complete Divine that is storm-related, duh) The diety he needs for this PrC is Talus (forgive spelling, I'm going from memory here) Talus is a CE diety. (we found this while digging through a Forgotten Realms setting book in the Waldenbooks that we get D&D books from, took us FOREVER to find him) So to worship Talus and get the PrC, he has to be a CN Favored Soul. (otherwise the party would shun him)

So, everyone in the party is good but him, and that is ONLY because his diety is Evil, and he doesn't want to offend the diety by being good himself. (he has decided that the reason he is with a good party is to try and keep him from going evil, cause his PC doesn't like evil, and he hopes that a good party and an evil diety will kinda cancle out)

Does anyone know of a storm-related Diety that we can swap out for Talus? (preferably one that is neutral or good, so he can play a good PC) I've talked with him, and he'd rather use a diety that ISN'T from Eberron or Forgotten Realms because of technicalities like domains and such. (that, and everyone else is worshipping a core diety, despite all the books and stuff we have)

01-02-06, 09:31 AM What about using the uncaring Obad-Hai? He's a TN god of nature in the PHB, and surely storms and other harsh things are part of that. He offers a buttload of domains - Air, Animal, Earth, Fire, Plants, and Water - and being as he's TN rather than any sort of good, I don't see how he'd have any objection to people revering the ugly side of nature as well as the nice side.

Air would be a particularly good aspect to focus on there - notable spells include Control Winds, Chain Lightning, Control Weather, and Whirlwind. If your would-be Stormlord can't whip up a decent storm with that set, I'll eat my hat.

01-02-06, 11:19 AM Procan (from Greyhawk) is a CN with the Chaos, Storm, Travel, and Water domains, and the longspear as his favoured weapon.

01-02-06, 11:48 AM It's not really bad to have a CN servant of Talos in your otherwise all Good party. I mean, the Favored Soul could focus his role-playing on appeasing Talos' wrath, instead of spreading Talos' unholy words. If the party ever have to interract with evil humanoids, it could even be a good thing for them.

If you still want to switch his deity, I will suggest you Anhur, a Mulhorandi god. Mulhorand is a part of Forgotten Realms inspired by Ancient Egypt. Anhur is a CG god of war and storm, with the Falchion as favored weapon.

01-02-06, 12:07 PM When I played a CN cleric of Talos, I RPed him more of a crazy (off his rocker) kinda guy instead of worrying about good and bad.

Kind of like casting a lightning bolt and laughing hysterically at the enemy getting electrocuted and being amazed at the bright color and texture of pure energy.

I think Talos kept me as a follower not because I didn't really follow all the holy mombojumbo, but because I loved living the energy of a thunder and lightning storm and using his name as it's creator.

The party didn't care that I was nuts as long as I was loyal and didn't offend there views. (too much. ;) )

I mean, the Favored Soul could focus his role-playing on appeasing Talos' wrath, instead of spreading Talos' unholy words. If the party ever have to interract with evil humanoids, it could even be a good thing for them.

If you still want to switch his deity, I will suggest you Anhur, a Mulhorandi god. Mulhorand is a part of Forgotten Realms inspired by Ancient Egypt. Anhur is a CG god of war and storm, with the Falchion as favored weapon.

We're playing a standard D&D game (with a hint of the Ghostwalk campaign setting/option every now and then), so I think he'd rather stay away from FR stuff if he can. He's kinda agitated by the fact that the Complete Divine has an excellent PrC for him, but that he needs a book we don't have for his diety. Anhur sounds like it would work, minus the fact that it is still Forgotten Realms. I guess I should have said that non campaign setting stuff would be easier to use.

I'll suggest that. He's playing a female character (he and the Ninja took a stand against our all-male party, and he's having fun trying to tie in the fact that gender is important in an RPing game) so maybe he can play a stereotypical "Dumb-blond" instead of a crazy old man. Either way, being a "psyco" who lashes out thunder and lighting in a diety's name sounds like something our party could use. (it'll be the ONLY RPing humor, unless you count the fact that both female PCs are going to hit on one of the male PCs, and that the Ninja is a "butch" female, mustache and all, and we aren't going to tell the male PC's player this until AFTER they become "friends", lol, kinda stupid, had the be there....)
