| Venom of the Yuan Ti05-16-05, 09:14 AM | How wierd do you try and make your games? Have you ever caused one of those :OMG! moments? Waht is the wierdest thing you ever did? |
| Lxarth05-16-05, 09:51 AM | During one game I was running I revealed that the BBEG was actually the father to the PC...he was so shocked because he was told that this BBEG had killed his father. It was awesome! |
| Gryllmyre05-16-05, 10:05 AM | I had a game show run by two Nalfeshnee working for a lich. A manes would appear out of the flame, and you would throw it at a dartboard with spikes facing outward. Whichever spike the manes got stuck on determined what you had to sacrifice to guess a letter. Another manes would appear and just walk up to the party, giving them dirty looks even as it was picked up and was about to be thrown. I think that was my wierdest inspiration. |

| Fixxxer05-16-05, 01:40 PM | Taking a cue from an old GURPS sourcebook, I once had the only talking dog born during a PC's lifetime actively seek the PC out from across the globe to tell him about his personal problems. Yeah, that was a "WTF?!?!" moment if I ever saw one. |
| Thoronmir05-16-05, 01:55 PM | During one game I was running I revealed that the BBEG was actually the father to the PC...he was so shocked because he was told that this BBEG had killed his father. It was awesome!I did something like that in a game once, only the PC also learned that the hot NPC he'd been crushing on was actually his twin sister. |
| Dishliquid05-16-05, 02:15 PM | The first "boss fight" in the game I'm currently DMing: The PCs hear grunting and squeeling a little ways away. When they fiinally turn the corner, before them was a female bugbear riding a yuan-ti reverse cowboy style. They were like "WTF." They still have'nt relized that the yuan-ti's are breeding a super race. Or mediocre race, anyway. |
| Zyfax05-16-05, 02:29 PM | well, I haven't really started anything weird myself, my pc:s did it for me. scenario: pc:s come from a wasteland city, a huge one, with water shortage, and they've never been outside it. so, they travel outside their city for the first time, and see farms and...plants in large quantities. something which they never had seen before. my players are quite good roleplayers, so they instead of accepting it, thought of it as devious, devilish tricks and demanded to know which monster was responsible for creating the mirage of all those green things. it became even more hilarious when they came to a river, and started debating of what this good-tasting, pure water was. their primary response was: it's water demons, conjured by a mighty wizard atop the mountain I see over there. it can't be anything else. don't touch it too much, the demons might eat you! completely freaking hilarious. of course, that campaign included the most freaky npc I've ever created. TININ! dragon polymorphed into elf, suffering from complete memory loss, due to a gone-wild planeshift. regressed into childhood. roleplayed as an extremely powerful chaotic good child. part of the personality came from piffany in the nodwick comics. some people in that role playing group still wants to exact revenge on me for introducing that npc. |
| Dynneroth05-16-05, 02:57 PM | In 2E I had PCs discover a crazy wizard's lab. Some very interesting devices they found: Fine black leather gloves that were "cursed" to not be removed. This immediately made the rogue PC who tried them on freak out. The cleric cast dispell magic on them and turned them back into their original form, black pudding. A box of needles a little larger than toothpicks made of diamond in a box with a command word on the box. The PC picked up the box and said the command word and two of the needles jumped out of the box and burrowed into his wrist and was burrowing up his arm headed toward his head. They never waited to find out what happened if the needles made it that far... they dug them out of his arm with a dagger. The final goodie they found were a pair of platinum coins in a blue velvet bag. The PC that got these role-played it perfectly. He pretended he was holding the coins, and when he acted like he was holding one in each hand an arc of lightning went through him causing 6d6 electrical damage. Boy, those were the good old days! :evillaugh |
| Puck05-18-05, 11:58 AM | This is actually LXARTH...I didn't log out of my roommates name I did something like that in a game once, only the PC also learned that the hot NPC he'd been crushing on was actually his twin sister. No way! That's exactly what happened in mine too! Whoa! So not like Star Wars then? No, it was a joke...I don't really have any weird moments in my game so I just typed what came to mind...I thought it was funny :D |
| Cantankerous05-18-05, 12:14 PM | We had, in a Cthulhu Now game, back in the early nineties, a PC discover that HE was a star spawn that had it's consciousness inserted into the physical brain of a human... and then he suffered amnesia about the event. Or so he thought. My games are usually very visceral and especially my CoC genred games, so the wackiness of it, and the rampant railroading that the player thought was going on REALLY caught him by surprise when I opened an envelope at the gaming table three weeks into this weirdness, dated the week before it began, explaining that it had all been part of an insanity (delusional insanity) inflicted upon him by seeing a star spawn of Cthulhu. The player sat gape mouthed for a couple of minutes, finally seeing all the little subtle hints that had been left for him that his memories weren't what they seemed to be and that his characters "insights" into how the opponents were structured were totally bogus, part of the delusional insanity as well. This was all revealed to him right after the plan the PCs had come up with had been put into motion, much of it dependant on his "insights", all while he was being psycho-analyzed for a DIFFERENT supposed insanity. Ahh, the CoC genre, were it gets ultimately weird, as nothing is weirder than the human mind anyhow. Isshia |
| Journeyman Samwise05-18-05, 01:13 PM | I rolled a random encounter on the Magic Armor table. "Your peaceful rest is disturbed as the room door is beaten down by-..." Cleric: Oh crap someone help me get on my armor where is my armor oh rite I sold it for drinks (sup dwarf cleric of Kord) Sorcerer: Oh gee golly gosh guys, like, my spells aren't back yet? Fighter: AW HELL NAW Bard: LAAAAAAAAA "A +3 PLATE ARMOR OF THE DEEP." Everyone-wtf? "ROLL FOR INTIATIVE." Cleric- I roll a "Sam, if you pull **** like this again I swear on the Nine Hells that I will not stop beating you until I taste *MY* own blood. "MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA." |
| Jarlaxle_The_Rogue05-18-05, 03:50 PM | Not really weird but it did cause an "OMG" moment. PCs are exploring an Ogre fortress looking for keys that will release the prisoners they've already encountered that they were there to save. (PCs nation is at war with Ogre nation). They come into what is obviously a torture chamber. There are three naked people (2 men and a woman) in the room. The two men are chained to the wall looking very beat up. The women in on one of those stretcher racks, with the word "Urkt" carved into her abdomen. Urkt is Irzenese (Ogre language) for "Martyr". When one of the PCs spotted this he was just like "Holy ****..." ooc, everyones jaw dropped. It was a glorious DMing moment for me. Another one later in that same fortress: PCs are exploring the upper floors. They go into one bedroom, it's empty, there is a candle burning on one desk and a sword stand beside the bed, the sword stand has two empty sword sheaths on it. PCs leave the room and continue on. They come to the next room, obviously the leaders bedroom. At the table is an Ogre female crying (she's one of the two generals that lead the siege against a town the PCs were charged with protecting. They killed the other general, a male who the PCs now prolly realize was her husband) the general looks up and yells "It's you!" then attacks the PCs in a rage. In short they kill her. The Paladin hears someone coming at him from behind, so he sort of spins with his sword out. An Ogre girl no older then 9 years old carrying a pair of swords accidentally impales herself on the Paladins sword because she can't stop her momentum. Incomes another adventuring party the PCs were working with and their mouths just drop open when they see what the Paladins done. I now inform the PCs that the session is over, invoking a glare from all of them. |
| Flushmaster05-18-05, 06:27 PM | When we get my new game started (hopefully in the next few days, still gotta make final arrangements), I plan to pit the PCs against an awakened monkey spellcaster (either a druid or some sort of cleric) who's angry at them for slaughtering monkeys (they'll be attacked by swarms of monkeys a few times before this). I hope it goes something like this: Me: A familiar screeching sound fills your ears as a dozen monkeys jump out of the trees to attack you. *Players roll eyes and start smashing monkeys* Me: *pointing to a player*: Roll a spot check. *player succeeds* Me: You see a monkey step onto the path and brandish what appears to be a holy symbol of Obad-Hai. A beam of bright light streaks out of his other hand and strikes you in the chest. Take X damage. Players: A spellcasting monkey? WTF?!? Or at least that's my goal. I'll let you know how it actually works out. |
| DevilKiller05-18-05, 09:12 PM | Well, my drunken master invented pizza in our version of Faerun, using an alchemically modified version of that cheese halflings get high on. Many years later, pizza is quite popular, especially amongst halflings, and its inventor is a demigod associated with cooking and alcohol. His symbols are a beer mug and a pizza stick (a monk's spade actually, but the flat end looks about the same) About the strangest character ever was another player's wookie barber in Star Wars. He carried a droid head as a translator, and he kept it strapped to his crotch. He also asked for pie on every planet we visited and would become indignant if they didn't have some. He was also a Jedi Master who dual-wielded lightsabers, and most combats came down to our ship's captain falling, my character hiding under a table, and the wookie killing everything in sight. As for weirdness in games I've run, I keep on meaning to run the Something's Cooking adventure from the WotC website since I think a "calzone golem" would mesh well with the cult of the pizza god. |
| shadowfox62805-18-05, 09:39 PM | Alright, so my one friend (Xilix, the wizard), NPCing another friend's character (Keith' the Barbarian who's uber overpowered), walks into a mine with a character that I NPC (Trick' the rogue), who is a constant member of the party. The group confronts a teenage halfling. The halfling intimidates the group. Trick and Xilix pass the counter for the intimidation, but Keith doesn't. He rolls so low, I make it so that he's absolutely terrified of a teenage halfling (turns out he was right, because he could have beaten the group one handed if it wasn't for his low HP) Also, before one of the quests, my friend asks if there's a semi-large rock nearby. I say, "There's a bunch." He then makes a stonecutting check to make his Deitie's holy symbol. He passes by a good bit, and says he made a pie. "Why a pie?" My friend responds, "My Deity is the God of Pie, ________." In fact, my school has "Pie Day," where they "worship" the pie god. That was a weird moment. |
| DM Ront05-19-05, 12:29 AM | I had a rather odd little session that ended up being the players getting poisoned by horrid hallucinigens and ending up in a d20 modern game getting shot at by a sniper while trying to unravel odd mysteries of WT* is going on. Then naturally I end with a TV coming on of its own accord and showing a picture of the party leader as the last survivor looks down at his feet and sees the grenade. Definately pretty freaked out. |
