I'm noticing a distinct trend in that all of the books mentioned here are published by Wizards of the Coast. Deviston, you should bare in mind that there are many great books out there published by firms other than WotC.

Very true. I stayed away from them as a comprehensive list if bought requires enough money to fund a small uprising!

The problem is OGM means anybody can publish and there are dozens of books now. It is going to cost you an arm and a leg to get them all.

For your game, I recommend going with either (3.0 or 3.5 but not both) and all books published by Wizards of the Coast. Just tell your players if it is actually published by WotC then its allowed; otherwise no.
If this seems drastic, consider the posible confusion and slow down as you flip through trying to find information.

There's plety from WotC that doesn't belong int he average game, as well. I'd refine this further by stating that the book must be examined and approved by you prior to its inclusion. If you don't like the book, just say no.

Or do what I did. Go with only core for starters. If someone wants something from the splatbooks I have to approve it first. Good reasons for taking something non-core is because it fits your characterconcept better.

Well, I also saw this as a good opp to have a list of books for people who don't know . . . I plan on only allowing WotC and MAYBE a few out of WotC books. BUT, having the list just in case would be a good idea. With the list I can look up the books and see if I want to buy them and let them in (( I tend to lean toward the supernatural than the melee books, so I would actually get them just to have them )) so keep the listing coming, I would appreciate it

It would be simpler to run links to the home pages of the assorted companies, both of print and pdf works.

This list is FAR from all-inclusive.

Green Ronin (http://www.greenronin.com/)
Altas Games (http://www.atlas-games.com/customer.php) (Penumbra and Nyambe, though the card game Once Upon a Time is fun)
Necromancer Games (http://www.necromancergames.com/)
Fantasy Flight Games (FFG) (http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/roleplaying.html)
Alderac Entertainment Group (AEG) (http://www.alderac.com/d20/sourcebooks.html) - NOT updated regularly.
Goodman Games (http://www.goodman-games.com/index.php)
Expeditious Retreat Press (http://www.exp.citymax.com/page/page/351667.htm)
Judges' Guild (http://www.judgesguild.com/)
Mongoose (http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/d20/index.php)
Silverthorne Games Online (http://www.silverthornegames.com/)
Bastion Press (http://www.bastionpress.com/)
Mystic Eye Games (MEG) (http://www.mysticeyegames.com/products.php?PHPSESSID=03fdb7f7ef26e43bd 98f823470724b11)

Bad Axe Games (http://www.badaxegames.com/html/products.html)
EN Publishing (http://www.enworld.org/index.php?page=enpublishing)

There. Far easier to scan their product pages and catalogs than to list the literal hundreds of books and pdfs available. And the above list only scratches the surface of companies. Non-D20 stuff (like GURPS, CoC, and WoD) can provide lots of ideas for the DM seeking inspiration. Especially the GURPS Worldbooks (http://www.sjgames.com/gurps/books/).

Now, if you want to compile more specific lists (with or without links) such as adventures, magic, races, classes, settings, etc. then I am sure that more reasonable lists are possible. As it stands, all D&D RPG stuff is just too broad.

Enjoy.
