| The Colonel06-12-06, 06:39 PM | Now this may be a mong question, but where do I find rules for changing base stats for some skills (or would I need to houserule it?)? Case in point: NPC Awakened flesh golem ... wanted to give him a high Intimidate score (would you argue with an 8' tall bloke you can't injure?) but since he has the CHA of a wet sock it looks hopleless ... and a bit odd. Ideas? |
| Venenum06-12-06, 06:43 PM | You have to house rule it. But i would use his str. |
| The man they call Boxhead06-12-06, 06:46 PM | I'd probably still use his CHA, but you can always give it a racial bonus to that skill, +8 or so ought to make it worthwhile. |
| Azezel06-13-06, 01:09 AM | Yes - Boxhead is right - this is Racial Bonus territory. Either that or you could give it a special ability, Fearsome (Ex): All creatures within 30' with an INT of 3 or more must make a Will save Vs DC (Golem's HD) or be intimidated. That's just off the top of my head use it if you like. |
| tsuyoshikentsu06-13-06, 01:14 AM | Here's what I do. If you ahve a negative CHA mod, apply it inversely to Intimidate. |
| Androcus Divinicus06-13-06, 03:41 AM | Here's what I do. If you ahve a negative CHA mod, apply it inversely to Intimidate. Yeah ... I don't do that. Personally, I second the suggestions made byBoxhead and Azezel. Regards, Justin |
| Witch06-13-06, 03:43 AM | I'd go with Boxheads one. A negative charisma makes you less impressive, not more-so. |
| rogue_lettuce06-13-06, 04:25 AM | There's a feat that lets you apply Str to Intmdte. Take that for it. Or give it as a racial bonus feat. |
| WayneTheGame06-13-06, 07:19 AM | Just houserule it. My DM allows us to use different stats for skills depending on the situation.. e.g. if I am trying to strong-arm somebody (Intimidate) I can use my STR modifier instead of CHA because I'm using threats, not force of will. We have to come up with a good reason to justify it, of course, but if it is reasonable he will let us without any problem. |
| Azezel06-13-06, 08:03 AM | Threatening someone is Charisma dependent. Now - if you used your Strength to pick soneone up by their shirtfront and hold them against the wall - that would allow your Strength to give you a +2 circumstance modifier to your Intimidate check - but Intimidate, even in the form of a threat is still Charisma dependant. It doesn't matter how stong you are - if you cannot express yourself in a forthright and forceful mannner (CHA) then you will not frighten anyone. |
| wrecan06-13-06, 08:45 AM | You could house-rule that size modifiers apply to Intimidate checks. That would better reflect a gargantuan red dragon's intimidation factor vis-a-vis a tiny grig's intimidation factor. Hmm... that idea has some merit. I might adopt that as a house rule. |
| Nom06-13-06, 07:59 PM | Or you could read PH pg 76 and discover that the Intimidate rules already assign a +/-4 modifier for each size category. |
