Any Dms have an alternate magic system that they use? I can't stand the spell resistance thing. It just seems to screw some magic users. I was wondering if you guys have experimented with anything? Is there another magic system in Unearthed Arcana or the other one Arcana Unearthed?

I'm curious as to how and why you reached this conclusion? Some creatures have a natural resistance to magic. Without more of an explination as to what you mean, your statement really sounds akin to "I think that monsters having damager reduction really screws some fighter types."

To answer your question, I'm most of the way through Unearthed Arcana and I haven't seen a completely alternate magic system yet (This book wasn't named very well. It's not so much about magic as it is about variant rules. Given it's name, I kinda expected it to be like a wizard's version of The COmplete Warrior.). There is a completely new version of spellcasting in THIS BOOK (http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/detail.php?qsID=25&qsSeries=Encyclopaedia) , though.

The alternate magic systems in Unearthed Arcana are near the back of the book; that may be why you haven't hit them yet. There are several of them, but none of them does anything significant with spell resistance.

On the bright side, they include a mechanic for Sanity, including exactly how much of it you lose for seeing a giant severed head fall out of the sky :)

Monte Cook's Arcana Unearthed does have an alternate magic system.

(but it doesn't make any changes to spell resistance.)

It just seems to me that there aren't alot of feats or the like that aid the mage in beating spell resistance. Spell penetration and greater but that is all I have found. Let me know if you know of more. I remember a high level mage in 2nd edition was very powerful...just about right. Now everything has spell resistance and spell immunity. It feels more like I am playing Magic the gathering than D&D anymore....as far as the rules go.

Well, you may have cleared things up for Fixxxer, but now I'm confused as to whether or not you're reading the same Monster Manual that I am.

Yeah, a lot of creatures have immunity to certain spells and a decent spell resistance. But keep in mind many of these creatures are pretty high level encounters. Those that aren't (and most that are) were SPECIFICALLY designed to counter some of the more common spells SPECIFICALLY to make them more of a challenge by forcing PCs to use alternate methods of defeating them.

Also keep in mind that something with an SR of 25 resists magic only about 60% of the time against a 12th or 13th level caster. With the spell penetration feats, this sinks to only about 50% of the time. Yeah it screws with the spellcasters, but by no means is it unbreakable.

I've designed a static anitimagic (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=213435) instead of SR.

Also, spell revision (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=203605) instead of vancian magic.
