Yup. It happens. In a session where I was a player we rescued a female gold dragon and after sereval months there were a feast provided by us (cost 5000gp, dont ask...) And our cleric dances with the dragon. The cleric came into the party after we rescued the dragon and the dragon was constantly in a human appearance and no one told the cleric that she was a dragon. So he dances, flirts, cuddles and before long makes it to the bedrom with her and has a terriffic night. So here's the question. You get exp for defeating or just surviving a dragon. How much for banging one?

Still can't figure out the total challenge rating for more creatures in one encounter so I give exp for each alone. doesn't that give my players less exp? Help?

The question is: What was his experience actually? Having sex with a beautiful woman. It is up to you to hand out XP for that. ;)

I was not the dm this time mind you. I was just wondering...

But the serious problem is Encounter Level. How do I calculate it? I usually have lots of different monsters with hugely wariable cr in one encounter.

Exp is given for killing, bypassing, or otherwise defeating an encounter but not "banging" it. I can see possibly giving some exp for the roleplay, though it sounds like it was the cleric whom was played and the dragon should get the exp. :D

That's nothing. Our group's Fighter/Dervish is a courtesan in addition to being a bringer of the thwackiness, and she proceeded to try to charm and seduce the Wyrm Silver Dragon whom we had just completed a mission for. She's now pregnant. She refused to participate when we decided to go pirating the Hobgoblin ships (the same Hobgoblins whose castle we has just raided to get the silver's half-dragon kid out, getting our shadowdancer and my pseudodragon cohort killed in the process).

More XP for me :D

So the dm's still being an ass on this one, he would not listen to reason and alteast give you a chance to escape?

God what a butt wipe...

Oh come on, that sounds fun. The pregnant PC is causing problems that end tragically. Perhaps they shouldn't have been so hasty. On the other hand, how did the dragon feel on the matter? Once the son was rescued, was further retaliation nessessary? Would it want it's mate or future child in harms way for mere vengence?

Help? Here's a very good encounter calculator (http://www.geocities.com/edymnionii/EPLvsEL.html). It's pretty self-explanitory and gives you 2 options for xp, along with how much gp worth of treasure the party should get.

I was refering to the dm's call on pseudodragon cohort, there was a thread started on it a while back, I think it was in the WaPtD forem.

Uh, dude, the thing HAD a chance to escape. I also made TWO attempts to go back in after it. Both times me and the fighter were nearly killed. The thrid time we went in, I saw that I was too late and that he'd been killed so I instantly teleported us back out.

We sank two of their raiding ships, killing everyone of the hobgoblins aboard and looted the treasure (mostly weapons and armor) and got a crapload of cash for it. I'd say that's a good revenge. Especially since we took them back to the Silver Dragon who GAVE us the mission in the firsty. He was equipping and training the nearby primitive sea elf tribes to fight back and destroy the hobgoblin fortress. So they'll be taken out by them sooner or later.

We found out he was somehow magically bound to his island, so he couldn't leave it and destroy the fortress himself (or help us rescue my cohort) or he'd die

Um, I was left in your last thread with the impresion that the dm simpily told you it was dead, that they had locked it in a room with an antimagic field and magically adjusting shackels, under constant watch until it was taken into an antimagic arena to fight a creature it could not possibly defeat.

My Mistake

All that is true, but I DID try to get it out. The DM actually ran the encounters in secret to see how many days he lasted before he would die. He lasted for three encounters, killing off a Shocker Lizard and a Dire Wolf before they through a dinosaur against him. I'm quite proud of him considering all he had was his sting.

In general, XP is awarded for overcoming challenges, based on the amount of risk, and occasionally for completing story goals. There's nothing in the OP's account that suggests this is anything more than a curious sidelight.

Of course, if the dragon was a (significant) enemy or obstruction at the time, then changing its attitude would count. But considering it was already befriended, I see no reason why continuing to befriend it is an achievement worthy of XP reward.

Y'see I've been in a similar situation before. I did a random monster roll and ended up with an ogre so the players decided to cast a sleep spell on it, then chain it to the floor then leave. They wanted exp for it, they claimed the defeated it. I gave them half the exp for it because they didn't actually kill it and I was being stingy. It's your own call I would say.

An XP reward? No.

Major-butt bragging rights? Hell. Yes. ;)

Now the question is, which is going to be the one that gives our Cleric the heart attack?

"I'm pregnant, and you're the father," or "Oh, and our children will be coming in a lot of twelve, and probably be scalier than that lizard man shaman you just put in his place."

*snicker.* Good times, man. Good times.

As the dwarf I am I'm going to open my chat with him with: "So, how was the dragon in bed? You were awfully quiet or is it I who are a heavy sleeper?" or something like that. I, as the dwarf, think he knows about the dragon thingy... Can't wait to see the expression on his face. He is a really good actor see. :ayyyy!:

What i want to know is....
When the cleric dies, does the child get his stuff???
In the 20-30 years it takes for the child to grow up, will the player get to play it as a Playable character?
And last, when does the cleric have to meet the parental units? wonder what popa is going to say about this youngester putting the moves on his daughter ..........
ShadowDragon8685

The femme was a Great Wyrm Gold Dragon.

Chances are her parental units have long since been relegated to the boneyard. :)

The gold dragon was adult, 100 years or so. Our DM says that a human and a dragon can't have children. It's like two mules. Can't go any further. So I think allso. But to have sex with a beautiful girl and finding out that it was a dragon the day after. I can't immagine that...

Tell your DM to crack open his Monster Manual (3.5,) to page 146, and look about half-way down the page, where it says Half-Dragon.

Dragons are magical creatures, able to mate with anything and produce viable offspring.

And I could concieve of it. More, I'd want more... Hehehe. A beuatiful girl in human form... And I could think of some interesting (read: kinky,) experiments with the full-sized dragon...

Hell, I'd want to find a magical something to change me into a male dragon, so we could try that, too. :)

Hmm, well, in diplomatic situations, challenges have to be fairly serious. Say, unite two warring tribes or stop the execution.

I did run a Buffy Demo For Eden Studios at UK Gencon a few years back that had, as its objective "Get a date for the Festival Dance". That worked really well and had some hilarious consequences.

Successfully forming a relationship with a dragon in this manner isnt really an xp issue, since it is friendly with the pc's already. However, it should certainly have some social benefits.

Take Dragonlance as an example, where sometimes Silver dragons fall in love with humans. Those humans usually are able to use the dragon as a war mount. Thus, classes like dragon rider are available to them.

Additionally, the draconomicon has a feat called "Dragon Friend" which is now available to this player and possibly the others. That feat allows access to some restricted classes and further feats.

Still, relationships are long term things, so i would give xp and benefits based on more than a one night stand. Perhaps should they get married or somesuch.

Yes, depending on how active this dragon is.

Take Dragonlance as an example, where sometimes Silver dragons fall in love with humans. Those humans usually are able to use the dragon as a war mount. Thus, classes like dragon rider are available to them. Well, not only. Dragonriders are relativly common in DL (compares to other settings)

Additionally, the draconomicon has a feat called "Dragon Friend" which is now available to this player and possibly the others. That feat allows access to some restricted classes and further feats.
Dragonfriend doesn't require a that close relationship to a dragon, but the player is noe certainly able to take it.
In the BoED there is a feat (Nymphs Kiss or something like that) which has this kind of relationship as requirement, maybe you could rework it a bit?

Still, relationships are long term things, so i would give xp and benefits based on more than a one night stand. Perhaps should they get married or somesuch.

That certainly. Gold dragons are LG, so don't expect that this will stay as a one night stand.
And this can be a great roleplaying opportunity. Just imagine what will happen when the dragon introduces her new love to her parents.

Damn. I didn't even think about half-dragons... actually the cleric is an aasimar if i remember right. Well then. Hope I can be the best man at the wedding. And maybe I can be able to take care of the little one too. teach her to use a warhammer and stuff. (Hammer of moradin see) Dwarfs set the youngest ones as high as the elders, right?

I think the cleric, (named silverhair), think that it was a one night stand... Oh, he's in for a really big shock.

Even Lawful creatures (including dragons,) are open to one-night stands. Read the amusing entry in the BoEF about the bardette seducing the paladiness. They aren't averse to it, but the paladiness wants to be open and let the bard know, so she won't break her heart.

(I loved the way they used a lesbian encounter in that book, BTW... But then I'm a dirty sod. I'm the guy who came up with the petrified bedroom elf, after all.)

11-05-04, 07:05 AM
It all depends on the creature.
Dragons don't have formal marriages (except for silvers I think), they take mates. For the dragon, this one-night stand could be the draconic equivalent of a marriage...

I agree with shadowdragon, even noble creatures can have a one off, no ties, bit of romantic fun. This is unlikely to be a long term thing.

Similarly, even a longer term relationship may not lead to kids.

In many ways, the gold dragon is an arrogant or haughty animal. It wouldnt surprise me if it was, in fact, the least likely beast to immediately fall for anyone. It may well have some mutual fun and then say "well, thats enough of that".

Besides, any such creature that can place a medium humanoid higher in relationship preferences than a majestic gold dragon mate is a bit sad, in my opinion. In literature, it's usually only mortals of incredible nobility or prestige that attract dragon lovers. Average adventurers probably wouldnt cut it.

I do hope this person has, oooh, an int higher than 12. They are going to need interesting skills and knowledges to keep such a romantic companion interested. I can see one of the smaller, playful, metallic dragons being of the right mind to associate with mortals for a while, but even they get bored of such creatures who, after all, have a pathetic lifespan, simple intellects and horribly limited education.

A legendary wizard, perhaps, maybe a legendary bard, but average Jane Cleric doesnt cut the ice when it comes to long term lover prospects for a dragon.
ShadowDragon8685

11-05-04, 07:30 AM
And why not? Is love limited to nobility, those who are *least* capable of love?

Love knows no social caste.

Besides, thinking of interesting ways to combine woulden't be that hard. :)

I wonder is the gold dragon a one time encounter or will the dragon be a reoccuring ncp?
