Ok, so as I scan the boads, there seem to be an amazingly high number of people who are having problems with something in their campaign/ group/ etc.

This leads me to wonder if I'm the only DM in the known world who has a group that doesn't argue (much), is cooperative about RPing and staying IC, doesn't make outrageous demands, and doesn't cause problems? I've been playing with approximately the same players for 2 years now, and in that time I've had 1 major problem, and only a few minor ones.

Are there any other DMs out there who just have good groups that are really fun to play with, or is everyone but me having more tress than neessary to play this game?

No, you're not alone. My group is a joy, and pretty much always have been in the 5 or so years that I've been playing with them. We have our little arguments now and then, but nothing more serious than that.

In truth, just think about it. Why would someone make a post just to say that they have a great group? It doesn't make sense and its boring. You come to this bored usually if you have a problem, concern, or just some ideas that need fleshing, not to say you have a great group.

My bunch may well be pack of incompetents with all the co-operation and tact of a feeding frenzy, but i love them all the same and wouldn't trade them for all the pornography in holland. We have our problems and setbacks, but at the end of the day we get on and have fun.

My group is very pleseant, we have terrific (though not annoying or overwhelming) comic relief and yet we set a serious tone in our adventrues. We've been playing for..oh god...like eight years or so and we're still going strong. I think that most groups are fine, but the problematic ones stick out more because they are the only ones who need to talk about.

Nope you're not alone, we just have nothing to whine about. :D

Myself, I sometimes enjoy playing the part of the bastard, so I sometimes post about how great my group is on threads where others are ceaselessly whining. Mostly they whine because they don't want to grow a pair and stand up to either their DM or their Players. Sometimes they whine because they think they can't find another group. And then there's those rare few who whine just to whine and don't really want to hear what everyone else has to say anyways.

Wait that one is the rare one?

My group rules, although since I am the DM they slowly kill my free-time with their overwhelming desire to play. But is that a bad thing?

My group is as interested in play balance as I am in terms of building their characters, love the story, and have a major part in shaping it. They fight smart but there's very little whining.

I come to these boards and shake my head at what people endure just to play. If I faced those obstacles, I'd just stop. Coming on here at least makes me feel good about myself.

Since someone in my group will check to see if I've said something. (you know who you are don't deny it)

My group has been great. We've been gaming together since for over 3 years now, and although we've had some arguments we've gotten through them. From when we started (not knowing the rules) to where we are now you guys rock! Although there have been some problem recently they all stuck with the group even though one of them almost got kicked out!
Thanks for letting me brag and happy adventuring!

BTW to my online groups your great too!

To my second paper and pencil group SHAPE UP I wish I could
make this post about you too!

You're not alone!! my group is fantastic!

i'd wrestle people here for that title. so they could actually honestly say it. anyone up for it?

we've had our problems which comes with a game that has more than one head... and we have... if you really want to count all heads... too many. and the little heads get in the way usually. it's all about, i want the eighteen with the two little 00's by it! so that's a little nerve racking.

i think what helps my group is the fact that they are all really into just learning. learning anything new. and they are really interested in what's going on. it helps alot.

my only problem that keeps coming up... i play with two little brothers... so three brothers always have something to one up each other about, but that's about the extent of it, and it's just usually who gives up first and finally says F*ck you! and that's just fun. *Shrugs*

My players are my friends. They, personally are great. However I have a habit of befriending a wide variety of people who can disagree on very basic issues. If everyone in a group has the same views, the same opinions on how things are and should be then they all have the same expectations. When you get people who disagree honestly on exaclty what evil is, what the role of the PC is and how the game should be run, then you have more problems. I have one player that believes that PC's should always be heroic, should charge into battle no matter the odds, and who believes that thieves are always shifty and accuses people of stealing just because they have a rogue class. I have another who is very adamant about the definition of evil and that there are absolutes that should not be changed or altered in any way. My brother is ambivalent about most of it and he doesn't see a reason to restrict anything. When he was running he allowed evil angels (He called them positive plane PCs... with wings... who happend to be evil) and created an energy type called Hellfire (like in marvel) that had no save or resistances. While I supported him in being creative and trying new things, they did not go over well with other members. I also have the dice cheater, the powermonger, the "character concept" trenchcoated pencil whipper and of course the dolt. The Dolt, plays half-orcs alot because he is.... intellectually challenged. This is a man who comes over to the house to borrow money for gas, while his wife sits in the car outside with it running. He spent electricity money on a box of magic cards (not a starter box, but an $80 box of boosters), popped them all and, not finding what he needed, sold them to other people for less than $50 altogether.

So, yes... count yourself lucky that you don't have constant arguments and discord. Meanwhile, I will count myself lucky that I have some great stories about games and gamers that some will not even believe, and all in all still a rewarding experience.

Okay.

At least it's good to know that there are other people out there who just enjoy the game.

I think most of the time the people who are happy/content don't rush out and say "I'm happy with my group! They're the bestest!"

Just like the rest of soceity, we hear the bad things, the complaints and disasters, rather than the uplifting positive occurances.

They're out there, just not necessarily vocal about it.

Our pornography is overrated, just because it's legal and accepted here, doesn't mean we have *more* of it. I mean, look at joints, a lot more people in the states appear to beusing that then here in the Netherlands, hmm, why why why I wonder?

Think of it, how interesting would the boards be if 90% of the posts were along the lines of:

Last weekend's game was fine, n problems to report. Still not seeing any need to get any of the supliment books, although I got MM3 just because I could. On an unrelated note, why do so many people order pitza? On-one in my group likes the stuff. Pringles are agreed to be better (as long as they're not salt and vinegar).

It's the same as the news. "Today in St. Andrews absolutley nothing out of the ordinary happened" does not constitute a story.

My group rules from orbit. I shake my head at some of the sticky situations that some people here report - I simply can't relate.

I have also been with the same group for two years, and we haven't had much problems either. The two times something comes up is when something is new and we havent played it before, or when that stupid common sense thing comes into hand (which dosn't seem to apply well to D&D :thinks: )

Well, I’ve been waiting for an opportunity to brag about my group. :D

We’ve been together for almost eight years now. We range in age from 30-40. We have scores of decades’ worth of D&D experience. I was the most recent permanent addition to the group; the rest have known each other even longer.

I share DM duties, though over the past few years, I’ve played more than I’ve DMed. The other DM and I don’t see eye-to-eye on everything, but we respect each other’s position … the man behind the screen gets the last word. I still appreciate the fact that, since I have so much experience, he still asks my opinion about many issues. He may not always follow my advice, but it’s nice to be asked.

Most importantly, we all share a common vision of how D&D ought to be played. We all show up, on time and ready to play. We have been quite successful in limiting distractions; though trying to play after the DM’s wife (who also plays) gave birth was a challenge.

We come from different backgrounds, including various genders and races. Still, we always manage to respect each other … each other’s opinions, each other’s sensibilities, and each other’s time. And we trust each other. The DM could strip away all our hard-earned equipment and leave us bound and gagged in pitch black dungeon cells (and he has), and you’d not hear one protest from us. We’ll find a way out (and we did).

One thing we all share is a love of roleplaying. I don’t think I’ve heard one of us complain that there was too little combat in our games. We prefer playing characters, not just piling up kills with a collection of feats and stats. We can still enjoy the game without ever picking up a die.

My personal houserule prohibiting evil PCs is actually superfluous with this group. If I told them I was running an “Evil” campaign, they’d all balk. They like playing Heroes. Personally, I prefer either Anti-Heroes or Reluctant Heroes. In our last campaign, I played a PC who started out as NE and I was able to roleplay his “redemption” to NG.

We don’t metagame. We don’t hold marathon strategy sessions during combat under the guise of talking being a “Free Action.” We all value the game above our personal interests. If the DM decides he’s giving out too much loot, we don’t complain when he takes some back.

We write extensive backgrounds for our PCs and most of us keep Journals of the campaigns. We invest time and energy and creativity into our characters. Our efforts do not go unrewarded.

I’d been playing D&D for about eighteen years before I met this group. They’re quite simply the best players I’ve ever met.
