I was watching the movie thirteen ghosts and an idea came to me for a game concept that would mix elements of the movie with a real old adventure I ran back in the 1st edition days. first the old adventure consisted of a wizard keep that was half sunk in a swamp on an island. the wizard that owned it was both dead and alive at the same time. He was a temporal wizard and existed in two time lines. anyway inside the keep was a gate (similar to stargate-SG1) that would allow planar travel once you learned the codes to unlock the portal. when the portal is found it was set to go to the etherial plane. now for the new idea. I was going to make the gate completely off and create a new layout of the etherial plane. broken down to three planes: 1 the non-etherial (aka prime) exists as the normal rules, 2. the deep etherial this is the realm of ghosts and incorporial undead without the aid of magic neither can see the other. and 3 is the border etherial where one exists in both deep etherial and prime at the same time. you can move about in the world like the prime plane and bound by the prime plane physical restrictions (no floating through walls or floors or gliding over water etc) but the creatures of the deep etherial can see you also and attack you without any special abilities. you would still be required to use magic to harm them and see them though. when the party enters the keep they are now in the border etherial plane and also trapped within the keep are a series of ghosts that are manical killers. the party will have to locate special goggles that allow them to see into the deep etherial and they will need ghost touch items to affect the undead. the undead do not need these as they exist in both the deep and border planes at the same time. any ideas on how this could work? any changes needed and any ideas to flesh out the adea even more. this thread is a discussion thread for an idea and anyone that likes the idea is free to use it. |

If the party has a 50% miss chance so should the ghosts. I also might get confused by the layers of etherial but if your player can handle it more power to ya! I realy liked the mechanical part of the house and would love to see that represented well. Perhaps if you turned it into a series of puzzles and "boss" fights it would flow well. That is about all I can think of right now, so happy gaming. |
