| Vasiliy05-12-05, 02:38 PM | Is the "Planar Handbook" (2004) a 3.5 replacement for the 3.0 "Manual of the Planes" (2001), or these are the different books? If I'll buy the "Planar Handbook", will I need to buy "Manual of the Planes" for additional information? Thanks |

| green_yawgmoth05-12-05, 04:10 PM | PlHB is more focused on the people and places of the planes, whereas MotP is more focused on the planes themselves. Both are very nice books. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/yawgmoth/kittyjig.gif |

You don't need it - there's plenty of useful information on Planes in the 3.5 DMG. The Planar Handbook appears a lot more "useful", in that its got feats, races etc. in it but I've heard mixed reports about it. I'd suggest having a look at it before buying, if you can. |
| Dreaming_in_the_void05-12-05, 06:26 PM | PlHB isn't really a replacement for MoTP, and MoTP does have some creatures in it, but its more about running and/or creating the planes. MoTP is absolutely fantastic for a DM, but the players won't find much of interest directly to them in there. There are a handful of spells and four prestige classes, but the PlHB is what they'd want. If you're planning on running a serious planar campaign, go with MoTP. If you're looking for a bit of brief plane hopping fun with some nice crunchy bits, got with the PlHB. |
| eudas05-12-05, 06:52 PM | I recommend MOTP. the Planar Handbook is more about player character oriented stuff; MOTP seems to have better info in it, IMO. But, alot of MOTP got copied and pasted into the 3.5 DMG, so you might not need to buy it, really. it all depends on your exact needs/desires/wants. eudas |
